Yeah I understood it. I don't have the options that are being suggested, so just trying to make the best of a tricky space. This is my best chance of getting a usable room (I've had multiple set ups over many years) and the compromise is what I can do. So re=reading Winnie Pops thread, I'm not sure if his comment is clear to me.

"When centred correctly for example a vocal should sound present, full and not "stretched too thin" (monitors too wide) while still having a sense of a stereo field and that distant L R panned objects are also able to be heard and not small." answers the question I asked.

As I said, I have the 2 options I posted about.

Anyhow, not sure we are quite on the same wavelength here though I am genuinely grateful for your considerable help, it is really appreciated

I understand what you have written and I am conscious that I am suggesting what is the better setup for the sound - which is that you and the monitors should in the centre of the wall you are facing and go for an equilateral triangle. Ideal may not be possible now; that is your decision for you and your family.

Yes. I get that. I was hoping someone knew the answer to my question, rather than 'I wouldn't start here if I were you'. I posted the pic (well, tried) to show the setup but got 'change the room around like this instead which I cannot do. I know it's for me and my family.

This has been taken to a place I didn't need. Im a 55 yo playing music in various ways since I was 5, not some fool who can set up a room. I still want to know which option to take and was hoping someone would say 'better close together and same distance from you' or 'better in my experience to have them further apart'. I cannot redesign the room, or hang the sofa bed from the ceiling etc. Not sure what has led to this but perhaps read the first post and see if you think you have taken a helpful route here.

In fact, the title is "I cannot get my monitors equilateral', not ' I can get my monitors equilateral if I knock a wall down and remove a window, help me redesign my room from the ground up'. As you suggested I reread someone's post to see if I can understand it...sheesh man. Frustrating

Go with a close equilateral triangle. If you can find a wall where you can mount the speakers 1.5m apart at ear level and sit yourself 1 metre away from the wall then you have what you said you cannot do.

Ideally you would be centred along the wall you mount your speakers on but if you can't, you can't.

Sorry, I seem to be causing you some frustration. I will leave you alone to get on with making it work for you.
