    Something just occurred to me…

I can’t find a definite price, but it looks like the original Rockman back in 1982 might have retailed for around…

    $279.

Apparently that’s $950 now! Fair play if that’s right,

I've seen people with them already and they paid $229, some stores shipped early in the US

Well no one bats an eyelid when an overdrive containing 3 opamps, a few pots, 2 jacks and about £2 of caps and resistors cost £299 as long as you have to wait to get it :)

I don't get why this is a pedal though. A belt pack with balanced DI out and BT channel changing would be a better idea

Because it was most famously not used for its intended purpose… and redoing it as a pedal lets you use it as it was used most famously - much more easily.

That kind of makes it clear how many tracks were on the records of those famous tunes. At least double tracked, probably quad.

Sounds fun - but not nearly £300 fun.

I wonder if it will actually be that much. Possibly the shop above has listed it at the maximum possible RRP so they can later fraudulently "discount" it. It's $229 in the US so it should be around that here but in £, give or take a little.

Here's one of the first full demos and I'd like to hear some more as I'm not wholly convinced about the price vs sounds.

I love 80s sounds and that 'Def Leppard sound', particularly the clean one, but wonder if you could get all this, and more, from a Tonex One dialling in a capture, comp, chorus, reverb, delay and save a few pounds. I'm already getting something similar from my individual fx. Let's see

Has there never been a tone control on the Rockman - that makes it quite hard to navigate with different guitars surely?

Nope. I had the JHS Rockbox and you could do more i.e. modify the Comp, Gain, Chorus and Delay and it had a Send and Return on it. They've stayed faithful and it sounds limiting but the Volume and Input Gain can adjust things that will affect the tone.

Here's mine. It's definitely a lot of fun. Is it worth the price? If you want that sound then absolutely yes.

Great demo, Ross and hearing it like this, apart from the obvious Hysteria thing on the cleans, I'm also hearing the sound on funk stuff and that Paul Jackson Jr thing, too :)

Pete Thorn's demo goes more Boston and it appears you can scroll through the different sounds as there's a tap feature.
Like our Ross said, it's capable of some Brian May sounds
