I had a little walk down Denmark Street just now to see if anybody had the pedal, nobody has been sent it yet.

They're very niche or nostalgic sounds but it seems people want them. I know I do for both those reasons !

Nostalgia is exactly the reason. The second I plugged into it I got the Satriani tone I grew up listening to until the cassette crapped out. For anyone that really knows that sound, there's just nothing like it apart from an original unit which is obviously touch and go on reliability. As close as I got with Helix, this is just right straight out of the box.

The big surprise for me was how it did what it is said to do and just fits in a mix. The track I recorded had nothing on it besides reverb and delay. No eq and I didn't even tweak the level. It just sat there bold and unashamed. It's a one, maybe two trick pony but so is the Dumble inspired pedal that cost me the same amount or, insert so many pedals used for one thing.

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

Whilst it's pedalboard friendly, from the demos, it seems to favour going direct and sounds thinner through an amp.
@rossyamaha - did you get to try it through an amp and with other pedals and if so, what's your thoughts on that?

Guitarguitar's sold out now too. Unreal. Someone at Dunlop is gonna look real silly for not doing this years ago...

I tried it out at Dawsons on Denmark Street a little while ago. Sounded so good I bought it! As rossyamaha says it's all about the nostalgia. I got the 80s Def Leppard feels from it.

It sounds like crap into my cheap Black Friday Supro tube amp, that's for sure.

Need to pull out an FRFR I think for this one for when I want to fill the room. Obviously direct is best, but I don't like noodling through the computer/nearfield monitor speakers!

These are not the 'sound' I would ever want. However, lots of people who love this tone are giving good feedback on these, so cool.

It's nice to hear it does what it says and isn't all hype.

  • @rossyamaha ; I'd be interested to hear/try your Helix patch...
    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

This is definitely not for me although I'm prob in or close to the target age group (older players with disposable income).

I absolutely hate Def Leopard / all that type of stuff.

Anybody thinking of using one of these for live pretty much has to commit to using an external footswitch (-> Ctrl input on the unit) to cycle (only- not selectable each one) thru the 4 modes (2 cleans and the crunch and lead).
There's no way to turn the chorus on / off other than the button on the actual pedal?

Yeah, I hated that overproduced pop-rock at the time (I was a moody teenager into noise and loud guitars) and still not a fan.

I'd have been listening to The Cult and Killing Joke, etc

  • It feels to me like a “wait a couple of months and pick it up for £150 used” type of pedal.

I guess the novelty will wear off fairly quickly.
