Any use rest stroke who don't play Gypsy Jazz?

I’ve been working on improving my picking technique and recently started experimenting with rest strokes. It’s still early days but it feels like a good challenge. I’ve always struggled with sweeping but rest strokes seem to be making things a bit easier.

Are there any rest stroke users here who don't use a pebble for a pick and a Selmer? I adore Django but I'm not using the rest strokes to play Gypsy jazz. I’m a big SRV fan and I noticed he uses them quite a bit, I’ve also read that Eric Johnson does too. Are there any other famous players known for using this technique?

Lots of bluegrass pickers use them. They are the "correct" way to execute the Lester Flatt G run which is a ubiquitous feature of that style. Tony Rice used them in a magical way:

Back when I was having lessons a few years ago, playing fingerstyle in more-or-less the classical method, my teacher started me on rest strokes. (But I never went further with it. I might go back one day.)

    Me!

Wasn’t something I learned or consciously decided to do, but they’ve been a part of my playing for as long as I can remember.

My first guitar teacher used to tell me off for it and to “stop sweeping everything!” when he was trying to get me working on alternate picked licks.

I use them all the time, but I did my years of copying EJ and SRV's style.

I heard about them from a gypsy jazz guitarist, and learned the technique out of curiosity.

    It’s a well-established technique for playing classical

same logic as gypsy jazz - maximises projection

Edit: apologies to @Tannin , just realised that he has already made the point re: classical
