No band. Just one man .. or woman.. thank you Loretta

I say this..

2nd is Beck playing harmonica to a festival crowd on his own which I shall hopefully find when I get home.

Peace

I’m not a fan but anyone who can fill Wembley with just himself, a guitar, and a looper pedal must be doing something right.
Don’t even look at it! Don’t touch it! Don’t point even...ok, you’ve seen enough of that one.

There's a Jackson Browne album called 'Solo Acoustic' which is brilliant.  I've got it on cd but I don't think it's on film. Great live album though.

  • I could pick any one of dozens of Glen Hansard live videos I've seen, but this is right up there....

    Indeed.
I’d also cite Newton Faulkner here. He may not have filled Wembley in his own right as a headliner but I’ve seen him do a Pretty Damned Job of captivating big crowds on multiple occasions. And he didn’t even need the looper… :-)
Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...

  • In honour of the fact that I'm off to see her tomorrow night in Glasgow, how about this for an incredible debut live solo TV performance....

    Can't believe it's over 20 years since!

The best solo performance I think I've seen was Julian Lage at the Cadogan Hall a couple of months ago. Absolutely astounding. Well, that's second to András Schiff playing Well-Tempered Clavier Book II at the Proms a few years ago, which might be the best musical performance of any kind I've ever seen, but do we count classical musicians here?

Amazing.  Saw her do it live at Hammersmith a number of years back.  I think she does the whole looper thing better than Ed Sheeran does.

I saw Mick Abrahams playing in a pub in Dunstable a long time ago and he had a lady singing with him who got up and sang solo.  Just her singing Motherless Child with no backing.  It was truly mesmerising. Unfortunately I have no idea what her name was!

Joe Pass as a solo player was simply amazing - never had a pre-rehearsed arrangement - just chord melody improv for days.  Proper legend.
