Blimey, the Nephs. Used to follow them on tour, saw them live over 100 times.

Whilst there's still plenty of goth ish stuff around, or 'darkwave' as it seems to be known as these days, I think you'd be pushed to find anything close.  Paul's clean melodic arpeggio riffs with Pete's searing lead tone over the top,  Spaghetti Western (Morricone) influences and all that.. The Sisters were obviously the closest at the time but I don't come across anything like that any more.
Sorry, hit the post button, the Sisters didnt even come close in my view, they were tame compared to The Nephilim. I cant remember any band back in those days with the same kind of vibe.

I get that you're a Nephilim fan, but its undeniable that the Sisters pre-dated them by about four years, therefore I'd say that intentional or not, the Nephilim were influenced by the Sisters.
Better / Worse? Who knows, that's a completely individual call  ;)

I think the whole scene influenced itself, I love The Sisters too tho, still listen to Vision thing regularly, the Nephilim just had something tho, maybe less glossy? or less synth? The guitar work and vocals really made them stand out for me, and the way they built their songs up from slow and haunting to roaring along was magical.

Fotn had something else that I don't get from even the best other goth bands.
I was never a fan until I was asked to include them in my reviews at hellfest. They were just mind-blowing.
There's a lot of black metal that is influenced by them

Found this the other day playing in the background of a random Instagram video. Belgian group I believe.

Wasn't sure if it was sincere or an 80s Goth parody at first though. But it's catchy enough.

Edit: Apologies, totally misread the title - this isn't Goth rock at all.

Whoever suggested Woven Hand up there gets a like from me. More American gothic odd preacher stuff but still in the same ballpark (I hate yankisms)

I always describe sixteen horsepower as joy division played by the denizens of Deliverance. With Wovenhand DEE went slightly more rock-ish

And also, if you haven't got the extended version of First and Last and Always on CD, it's worth it - the bonus tracks are some of the best, especially the first four - Poison Door, On The Wire, Blood Money and Bury Me Deep (the B-sides from the Walk Away and No Time To Cry singles.) If the original album had included those as well it would have been an altogether greater whole even than it already is.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

My ex was a big Fields fan in her younger days. She’s in the video of their gig at the Forum/Town and Country club, the bit where they’re all queuing up outside the venue. There’s all these thin, pale, wasted looking people…. then you see my ex, who was rather fuller-figured, eating a bag of chips.

When I was first learning guitar I was obsessed by all things goth. I think I learned every note by southern death cult, death cult, the cult, sisters etc etc.
More modern bands that might interest the OP - early Editors, Interpol, The Horrors. Two Gary Numan albums might float your boat - 1994's Sacrifice, and 1997's Exile. Very heavily influenced by Sisters and Dep Mode.

I was there. Just checked the video in case I recognised her.
