James Dean Bradfield's best solo?

What's Hot

Many years ago I bought a guitar mag and it had a transcription of one of his solos. I was not a fan of the Manic Street Preachers, but I do recall listening to the accompanying CD and thinking that the solo was a complete blinder, very melodic and exciting.

Having just seen his name in another thread title, I thought, what was that great solo???

So I figured that some of you guys who know his stuff could name some of his best solos, and maybe I could find it (and have a go at it!). Any takers?

    Motorcycle Emptiness is the classic.

Further Away is a fantastic melodic finger twisty thing but I doubt it’d end up in a mag

My Little Empire isn’t a solo but the whole guitar line is incredible

    Autumn Song is nice

Sleepflower is fab in a GnR glam rock sort of way

And there’s a bunch on the Holy Bible that are a bit weird but completely brilliant, top would be Faster for me, but Archives of Pain is fab too

    Best JDB solo?

Roses in the Hospital off off GATS has to be a strong candidate.

Also look at B-side "Donkeys" - which is incredible, and he is the master of the short vicious solo... "Found That Soul" is a great one.
The Last Dinner Party ≈ the best thing ever...

    All great choices.

I always enjoyed the Stay Beautiful solo and the outro solo on ifwhiteamerica.

I also like how much of a completely transparent Slash tribute Autumnsong is.

    Archives of Pain
    Comfort Comes
    Faster
    Donkeys
    La Tristesse

Although I'd argue that this most elegant solo is actually Tolerate.

As well as all of the above, the outro to Condemned To Rock and Roll is hilarious in its brilliance.

Anything of Generation Terrorist is where the “chops” are. Gold Against The Soul for those searing, stadium rock solos. Holy Bible for the angular note choices. Everything Must Go for the restrained, melodic approach - even though I’ve always found him very melodic.

    God, I love the Manics.

Words simply can't express it.  My love for other bands has waned a bit over the years, but they still sit there on the top.
