Hey folks,

I have a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb sitting unused and would like to clear some space after buying a bit of a grail amp recently.

But here's the thing. A few months back when I switched it on it made this crazy electronic whining noise. Oof. However after switching it off and on again, it was fine. It's probably done it 3 or 4 time over the last 6 months but always fixes itself after a 'restart'. No idea what it is – is it the amp? Is it the wiring in my incredibly old house? Would someone with an ounce of electrical knowledge (unlike me) diagnose it immediately? Who knows.

And more to the point, can I get a video of it doing it? Of course not. Because it hasn't done it for ages.

I've owned it from buying it brand new and it has never left the spot I sat it in when I took it out of the box.

So given that it's a bit of an unknown quantity – the noise might never happen again or it might – I'm trying to be super cautious and fair and offer it up for £350 which is half the price of the next cheapest one for sale, as far I as could see on Reverb.

It comes with the instructions, cover and pedal.

Local pick up in Hastings, ideally, as you may want to try it, or I can travel to meet somewhere if needed.

I've saved a bunch of boring videos of me switching it on and off from today and a few months back to try and capture the sound. Spoiler alert, I didn't! They're all at the link here.

Shout with any questions!

    Just messaged.

Ha that’s a loooong trip. I did the same in the opposite direction a few months back for a guitar. What’s the matter with us!

  • The trip was just too long and who could blame anyone for that.

So this is still available. Let me know if you’re interested.

If the combined Icepower  power amp and PSU board  has a fault then that's a simple fix as the whole module can be replaced easily. It's not a Fender part and is widely available.

If it's a fault with the Fender DSP board then again, it could be replaced but I don't know if Fender would supply it. If it makes the noise again connect the XLR output to something and see if the noise is present there ... although the DSP board is fed from the aux supply of the Icepower module a whining noise can often be the inductors or  flyback transformer in the power amp singing and that gets amplified into the circuit as everything on that board is so close together.

The connectors used on the Icepower board and robust and unlikely to cause problems. The connectors Fender have used for the DSP board and control board though are from the laptop industry and not suited to this application IMHO due to the vibration in a combo amp. These cables are flat, white and have a little blue tab on them. You could try flipping up the latch of the connector, pulling out the cable and then pushing it back in and pressing the latch back down.

Don't touch anything on the board on the right side, as the amps facing you. That board has 330V DC all over it
