Strenghthening Nails

We've had conversations about nails before, mainly about preventing them splitting, or wearing at the tips. This is different.

My ageing nails have started to get thinner, and they wear even thinner as I strum. I've resorted to layers of nail hardener built up on the surface. This gets me through a gig or rehearsal, but it sounds like an acrylic plectrum, and there's none of the friction which adds texture to the note.

Has anyone had to tackle this? What did you do?
