Really like the different colour packaging. How many packets is a year’s worth exactly?
    Says 12 sets. :)
That’s 12 years’ supply for some of us.

It's a lifetime supply for a bass player and all their friends.

    That's why it's guitar-only.

    Flats yes, but not rounds.

Well I put a set of Roto Stainless on my strat and EB stainless steel on my tele. 9-42. The trem on the Strat is decked and doesn’t move.

Tension / stiffness is a little higher on the Rotos. Not much difference on the plain strings for feel.

The wound strings feel very different. The Rotos feel rougher and have more finger noise by a surprising amount. I can only assume the wrap wire is a bit thicker or that the wrap is not as polished before it gets wrapped onto the core.

The EBs were nearly a third cheaper despite coming from the USA.

    An interesting experiment.

Much prefer the new designs. Have been trying different brands recently and keep Rotosounds 9s (old design) in case of breakages. Any plans on producing 9.5s or 10.5s?

I like the new designs as well. The old ones feel a bit “Britpop” and 90s.*.  The new ones are more modern.

*Which, come to think of it, is suddenly big again. This is why I don’t work in marketing.

    Time to pick a winner?

My opinions in context: I rarely gig and don't play guitar for a living. I record my own music for a non-profit org's research and education videos. I have modified or built most of my equipment and I owe a big debt of gratitude to many people on this forum (you know who you are!).

I honestly can't fathom why so many people are so surprised to try strings by a UK company that's been making them since 1958 and realise that they are as good as any of the opposition, and in some opinions better.  Perhaps they just didn't market them as fiercely and prominently as American counterparts, or perhaps there is still some school of thought that American made things are naturally better and British made things aren't very good, like the self-effacing attitude many British people harbour.
I've heard many times over the years 'never heard of them are they any good' - ie When you've stocked D'Addario, Ernie Ball, Rotosound, amongst others and suggested them to customers  - Maybe in part it was because EB started the 'light gauge' format, with the clever branding of 'slinky' and the likes of Clapton used them - But that would be a strong argument used by the oldies amongst us - Bass strings wise, they have always held there head up high, probably until Elites came along

I do find their 'shelf live' is longer, especially when compared to EB - EB can go pitted/rusty, quite quickly on the plain strings - Despite 'sealed' packaging and you don't know they have 'gone off' until you actualy open a packet - But in recent years, I'd say EB are the worse for this, when compared between EB, D'Addario and Rotosound

I bought a couple of packs of EB slinkys in sealed packs and the plain strings were rusty.  Never again.

I'm a bit worried about the Roman wandering around in what looks like silk socks and no shoes with a thorny rose and stem lying there.  I'm also a bit puzzled about the anatomical dimensions there as well.  It looks as though if you stood the dead emperor up he would be about 8 feet tall with knobbly knees too far down his legs and 6 toes on his right foot.  The Egyptian girl's bum seems to have developed a distinct pointiness and has slid down a bit.

Nice, the new packaging looks great. Much more modern. I've been a big fan of Roto Yellows since I got a pack free with a set of BKPs. The inclusion of the spare high E is a nice touch as well

Congratulations!! Please DM us with your address and preferred string gauge ✌️

Thank you to everybody who contributed to this discussion. Getting feedback from musicians about the new packaging design has been really fantastic—but it's been even better to hear so much positivity about the strings themselves, as they are the real stars of the show!

Please continue to use this thread and leave a comment if this post has encouraged you to fit a fresh set of Rotosound to your guitar :3
