Going by what I see out and about, for lot of people the Internet == Influencer viral / marketing videos.

His guitar to do what he wants with, as others have said though, if you've done all that work surely getting the pickup cavities routed out a bit was the right way to go.

I like the channel and enjoy seeing someone do mods that I would consider doing before I decide to dive in (currently I’m at: re-frets yes, trem swaps no, pickup changes no, refins maybe)

the gear reviews they do are honest and well thought out IMHO

You do realise guitarists swap out hardware, change pickups and refinish guitars constantly?  

Can you elaborate on why you think he’s “stupid” for getting a good deal on a used guitar to modify?

I'm not going to pile in on the OP but I watched some of the video and found it interesting.  I'm just looking forward to the final instalment where the guy fits a new neck with dot markers and a six-in-line headstock

That colour would be excellent on something more obviously superstratty like the Fiore or even a Custom 24 etc. but it's a bit anachronistic on the SS I reckon.

Does anyone know if the same magnets are used in the SS as in the RE pickups? 

It nearly sounds like the SSs are A5 and the REs are A2, which would go done way to explaining the smoother top end on the REs.
