My two cents. I couldn’t really tell the difference between the two sets of PUPs and in any event most amps feature a treble control.

This is just objectively wrong. They were just as, if not more expensive in equivalent terms than a new Silver Sky, let alone a used one, and scarcer.

Small mods... like banjaxing a Kahler onto the front of their Strat (and then in-filling that route), routing it for a humbucker (two different positions), adding an XLR socket, changing the neck... small ones like Gilmour did?
Or replacing the pickups, neck (and swapping it back), bridge, electronics, machine heads, and finish "mods" etc as Rory did (and the folks who stole it and left it in a ditch back in the day)?
Or adding a Bigsby, odd switching on a routed out plate as Page did on his LP Custom?
Small, huh? Not valuable guitars - Rory's mum was still paying the HP on the Strat whilst he was on tour with Taste, the Black Strat was a brand new instrument when David bought it - and they weren't easy to source in the UK, so not a cheap guitar and Pagey's LP Custom was one of the very first in the UK, at a time when there was an embargo... definitely not a cheap instrument.

So if they are "just guitars" why is someone "stupid" for adapting it to fit their own ideas? 
Or are people stupid for putting too much value on something being a piece of wood with some electronics?
Or are people stupid for doing things you don't agree with?
Or are they stupid for challenging someone for calling them stupid?

I get the point of the original argument ie why buy a Fiat 500 then try to modify it into a Ferrari when it would be quicker and cheaper just to buy the Ferrari. Factor in the law of diminishing returns whereby $500 worth of mods to a $150 squier might get you something that would otherwise be in the $1K plus bracket but those same mods applied to something that cost $2K to start with is unlikely to show the same return. Or so you'd hope after spending $2K on an instrument. 

It's like guy who buys a guitar and sends in back for a respray because it's the wrong shade of black.

OCD is a powerful thing (the mindset, not the pedal). 

Just one more overdrive and I'll have my sound........

Modifying instruments makes me feel "closer" to them somehow. I modify everything: guitars, synths, machinery, old electronic toys, anything to get a good sound. Sometimes, modding and composing go hand-in-hand so that the music is directly influenced by a changing instrument.

Works for me, anyway.

I saw this clip a while ago.  I don’t think it’s stupid I just see it as YouTube content.  It would have been a better video if he doesn’t sound exactly the same on every single guitar he plays.  And I really don’t like his over gainy tone.

They do make money from the clicks on to them though. Not you of course but the maker of the video gain money from the foot traffic created. Unfortunately youtube is the best way to create discussion points with visual prompts. We can choose to click or not though and its entirely optional.

Fair price? Let's see what happens (although if it does sell we'll never know how much for). My suspicion is that people wouldn't want to pay that much for a modded guitar that will be difficult to sell on.
