But I don't believe that anyone's playing/creativity or anything else has been 'ruined' by the use of a particular guitar (Strat or otherwise) - and arguably, some of the examples given above are from periods where the artists were at their most "successful" so then it boils down to either 1) jealousy, 2) the sound of the recordings not being to your liking or 3) both the above.
Or 4) just mucking about.  I don't think anyone in this thread is being terribly serious.
You know what, though... its hard to tell with some on here...
This thread used to be funny.

  • Turning this on its head , Hank Marvin has never changed from a Strat ( the Burns doesn’t count because its basically a Strat) never changed his music, and there is rarely a bad story about  him. Moral stick to one type of guitar and there’s a place for you up there.

When I was about 18 I had to have a Gibson SG - down to Tony and Zal mainly -
Same old guitarists names come up on here all the time, and everyone knows who Tony is.

    Good to see Zal mentioned.

That reminds me, I need to bump my WTB ad for a Vintage VS6 MRMA.

    Great thread, BTW.

from Things can only get better to this .........

Yes, seeing him carrying a Strat into number 10 was a sad day. The instrument of my youthful rebellion became part of the establishment and suddenly uncool.

This is a case of the opposite. People ruining Strats.

    It's not a competition.

    That's an ugly rumour

Back on Topic, Jimi was most fun with a Danelectro, or the tele he apparently used on Purple Haze.
Ten years too late and still getting it wrong

Jimi Hendrix sounded better with a Flying V.

At least he could keep that in tune ;)

    Andrew Ridgeley.
Possibly true... he wrote Careless Whisper on a Tele, apparently.

Many such cases, Jeff Beck recorded Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers on a Tele.

Turned to a Strat and became a copyright-stealing chirpy harmonics bastard, overnight.

A slightly disturbing aspect in this thread is the suggestion that an musician cannot change.  Cannot change either his instrument or his music genre.  I listened to early Clapton recordings, those that he made while using a Gibson SG in his Cream days, and TBH found the music to be little better than barely organised noise.  His Strat days showed a mellower and considerably more musical output IMHO.  I can understand that some might prefer the more frantic Cream sounds but it is hardly reasonable to expect Clapton to still churn out that sound all these years later.

For  absolutely years I wanted a real strat, eventually I  got a 1999 powerhouse strat it is awesome but I have never used it to its full potential. I have owned it 24 years and don't play it half as much as I should. I use  bridge and the next position, middle position, and neck position. It has a very powerful sound, not weak like some strats.
The last four years I have been playing a Cabronita, less complicated and a real kool sound.
I do think Leo got it right first time.  And don't you think that is quite amazing?

Since I don't think he's been attacked    mentioned yet I would say it is fair to give props to that nice Mr Gilmour and the things he's done with a strat.

And having seen him play up close I'd go far as to say he is more comfortable with a strat than a Les Paul. Not that the guy is too stringy to manage a Les. I recall seeing him on Pop Quiz sat next to Claire Grogan and she looked like a garden gnome next to him. The size of the tiles in the backdrop gives you some kind of an idea. I think they zoomed in on Grogan to hide the fact that she was about the size of one of Gilmour's biceps at the time.

No mate nobody needs a muzak version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow or the champions league theme or whatever done entirely with trem bar flicks. Whatever happened to Let Me Love You etc....

Stick to the Les Paul buddy.

All my fave players switched to Strats

Hank Marvin - started on Hofner, switched to a Strat that Cliff got him
Van Halen - started on Gibson 335, switched to a Strat with the Gibson pickup bodged into it
Jeff Beck - was mainly Gibson - once he switched to a Strat he became the absolute master

I'm deadly serious mate. Strat use can have repercussions if you can't handle it. For some people 2 extra selections on pickup switch send people doolally.

My strat only has a 3 way switch, does that mean I'm safe?

I can't comment because I don't know the pre Strat-era Anton's work. You might be one of the lucky few.
