Looking for a Yamaha LS500 model (or Yamaha LS20, same guitar made for Japanese market) Having recently acquired LL500, LL400 & LS400 models....I'd like to complete the "set" of the handmade L series models from the 90's and early 00's so I'm able to A-B them. I really like the nut widths & neck profiles on these guitars. Also I think, for the money, they are great value.

Because I'm simplifying my boutique guitar collection for retirement, I'm open to trades (plus cash) for one of my Goodalls, Kopps, Martins, Iris guitars. These are superior guitars in build & tone to the Yamaha models but everything in life is a trade off, right?

PS. I'd also be open to buying another Yamaha LL500 model because my recent acquisition of one has equally impressed my buddy too. If I were to buy another one then my own would be available for more "me playtime"

  • Thanks bud, that Yamaha LL500 had been listed for eyons at an inflated price. He dropped the price yesterday to a more realistic price & it sold instantaneously. My priority is an LS500 because I now own an exemplary LL500. I'd love to own an OM-like equivalent of the LL500.
I'll always be open to buying another LL500 though to AB with my own & then my buddy will buy whichever one I offload.
    Thanks for the heads up....

I'll be off to Japan again in a couple of months. Will also be looking for an LS (or possibly FS) of some type.

I do keep an eye on www.j-guitar.jp every now and then. Some rarities pop up, like this one: https://www.j-guitar.com/products/detail.php?id=1455413

    £6500! :-o

No, I wasn't & think that was Si (grappagreen) who is still stoked by his acquisition.goldtop said:

How lucky are you? That must be very convenient for you. There was an exquisite LS20 on a Japanese website awhile back but they weren't willing to ship to the UK. And there's an immaculate one in Canada too going for a reasonable price but again the seller is unwilling to deal with "foreigners" thinking we're all potential scammers. But that customised jacaranda model looks like a Yammie "grail" guitar but at £6,500?! I think I'd rather invest that kind of money in a guitar which might be easier to offload in the future. Bet it sounds/plays other worldly though. Thanks for sharing :3

Just FYI, there is a third-party buying and shipping service for J-guitar stuff:

Not that I can see an LS20 anywhere there. There is an LS-50 from 1987 at a cool £7500!

But after putting so much decoration on it, WTF did they do to the headstock!?

Bit of a derail here, but does anyone know where I can find out about Yamaha’s acoustic range? It seems mind boggling. I’ve just picked up an LS-26 off eBay. Incredible guitar, wipes the floor with my other guitars. But I took a bit of a punt because I just don’t know much about the range. School me, please.

LS26 is made in Japan, LS6 and LS16 being made in China and far more common in the UK than the 26/36/56 models.

There are LL and LJ models, too - dreadnought and jumbo size, respectively. I had an LL16 for a while and loved everything about it except its size. Which is why I'll be looking for an LS or FS in Japan.

This PDF brochure should answer most questions:

    https://ca.yamaha.com/files/download/brochure/0/750830/L-series Brochure 2014.pdf

And this brochure shows the earlier series, which the OP is looking for:

Correct, Si bought the LL500 off myself, glad he's still enjoying it.

Thanks for the input & also for enlightening me and others.
Still looking for a Yamaha LS500 or LS20 (same guitar made for Japanese market). Thought I had one here in the UK which needed some work doing to it. But that LS500 is now longer available.
If anyone knows of another LL500 model, please let me know because my buddy wants one badly.

  • Just going to bump this one to the top again. I've come very close to acquiring an LS500 on 2 occasions now but both have been "on the other side of the pond" & due to costs of the shipping (and unwillingness to ship internationally)....it was prohibitive to take either deal further.
So I'm still looking for an LS500 (or LS20) and I'd consider buying another LL500 for my buddy.
PS. I'd also consider trading my LS10 model or any of my other available guitars. eg. Kopps,Goodalls, McAlister and Martins.
