NBD - old Yamaha...

What's Hot

Picked this up last week, very lovely indeed.

An old (1970s? Maybe 1980) Yamaha Pulser. I've always wanted a 70s P bass in either blonde or natural, but I don't like massive P necks so choice is very limited. These have a neck which is somewhere between 39 and 40mm which is ideal for me.

Cheaper than a modern Mexican Fender but built to ridiculous Japanese standards. Yes please.

I'll fix the image link later...

    How's the weight?

When I see 70's natural finish stuff, a cognitive bias (halo effect?) kicks in, making me think it's really heavy!

Very pretty. That grain is tight!
Ten years too late and still getting it wrong

  • Its probably 4.5kg so it's not lightweight, that's for sure. I don't think it's noticeably much heavier than my Squier Jazz bass though, so I don't think it's much of a problem. Although maybe ask me after a three hour rehearsal!

That sounds fine! Plus Bass KGs don't weigh as much as Guitar KGs!

If you ctrl click (Mac) on the image in Imgur and select 'copy image address' then paste into the Attach Image box, it should work okay. If on PC, I presume use Right Click to bring up relevant menu.

There's actually a near identical one for sale on Basschat.

Hahaha, no that is a print which is a reimagining of the kraftwerk "man machine" artwork drawn by Manda Rin of Bis fame.

Looks very similar to my 70's Tempest MIJ bass

  • Oooft, that's nice. I would prefer a black scratchplate but probably not enough to do anything about it.
