What's Hot

Can I run my PR with a pair of 6L6s for extra volume?

Also it stays clean pretty well all the way to full power can I change a preamp valve to get a bit more crunchy?

No. Firstly it will need a modification to the bias circuit or it will run them too hot, secondly it will stop the tremolo working properly, and thirdly it will actually *reduce* the volume because it will cause an impedance mismatch.

Fitting 6L6s in a Deluxe Reverb is possible because it has a mismatch as stock which the valve swap helps to correct and does actually increase the power slightly, the tremolo is optical not bias, and there's more bias range.

No, all you can do is reduce the gain with types other than the 12AX7.

What are you putting through it? A Princeton normally breaks up well before full power.

It sounds like you either need a Deluxe, or even better a Rivera-series Princeton Reverb II.

Princeton reverbs have very thin wire in the power transformer and output transformers. 6L6 will kill them unless you bias them cold.
