There's an Anyone Can Play Guitar video on vibrato. For the first time in my life I had a consistent, repeatable vibrato for about two days and have hardly played since. I'm not certain if he covered this aspect or not so if I get chance I'll look at it later. Clapton has an unorthodox technique so if you want that exactly then I'm sure someone will have posted a video.

The advice I was given was to overbend, with supporting fingers, and then release the bend slightly into the vibrato. From a mechanical point of view it works well. Musically it is only part of the story because you often want to bend and hold the note before starting the vibrato. My solution, when bending up (in the sense of towards the sky) is to bend to the note I want, then partially release and re-bend into vibrato. When bending downwards I use my wrist. Whatever method you use it requires practice, and listening back to recordings of your own playing.

The hardest thing for me is keeping vibrato consistent on long notes. I only learned through recording that I have a habit of easing off momentarily after around a second. I wonder if this is where my brain thinks "what note am I going to play next?"
