I looked in the FAQ section- but couldn’t find the answer. 

When you are getting notifications on a thread- what is the easiest way to unsubscribe from that thread notifications?

If you started the thread, you can't.

If you didn't start the thread, then click the yellow star in the top right and it should go hollow - that means it's no longer bookmarked.

If that fails, then check the notification settings in your profile.

I found it works to click on my Profile, Notifications 'Globe' icon, then the Notification preferences. 
Deselect 'Notify me when people comment on my discussions'. 
Worth a try.

I turned off all notifications for my own threads, then i favourite the ones i want to be notified of. It works quite well

This. I favourite just about every thread I start but it’s lovely being able to turn that off if they become a monster!
