Haven't read the first one, but I'd like to. I enjoy bios and he's had an interesting life. I always like seeing him talking on TV.

  • Lydon visited a theatre near me on his 2024 book promotional tour. According to the online ticket selection page, the front three or four rows of seats were not selling. I could not decide whether this was because they were the extortionately priced V.I.P./meet and greet seats or because they might be within gobbing range.

I went to see him talk on that tour.  The (smallish) theatre where I saw him was packed out.  He did do the odd bit of gobbing (tongue in cheek) but directed to the stage.  I’m not particularly a fan or anything but it was a fascinating evening and he came across really well.  Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

  • I read Rotten: No dogs, No Blacks, No Irish as part of my uni thesis and it was a great read and a fascinating insight into UK punk. Not sure how much of interest he has done since 1994 though!

He did adverts for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and got attacked by ostriches on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. The latter was quite entertaining iirc.

I went to see Pil on a freebie about 5 years ago. Wasnt really a fan of him before, but he was just a nasty hate filled little man. Musically great, but calling Jeremy Corbyn a c*nt between every song wore thin quickly.

  • This appeared on my timeline this morning.

I've seen PiL a few times live and Lydon is always a bit of a twat, but sounds like he is getting worse in old age.

Do you mean Anger Is An Energy?

I remember reading No Dogs.. and loving it.
AIAE was a bit of a case of ‘more of the same’ but a lot more about PiL…I think…been a long time since I read either, so others may correct my memory.

  • I've never understood why anyone expects John Lydon to hold orthodox left-wing opinions. Have they not actually listened to Never Mind The Bollocks?

  • Off to see him in Wrexham next month on the spoken tour then with Pil in december,
I’ve seen Pil a few times now and tbh they put on a good show.
Had tickets for the 1st run of spoken shows in 2023 but didnt get to see him as some of the tour got cancelled due to the promoter going bust so i’m looking forward to these now.

I don't get all the "sold out" criticism.  He was 19 years old when the Sex Pistols started out.  He and the others in the band, and other punk bands of the era, gave a scathing commentary of Britain and the world as they saw and experienced it at that particular time.  People are exposed to a wealth of life experiences as they get older and exhaust the "teenage angst" period of their lives, and the world around them also changes.  Those life experiences can soften, harden, or steer somebody's outlook on life in a different direction.  He could only stay as Johnny Rotten for a limited period of time as he got older.  It would have been ridiculous if he had tried to stay the same with his missing teeth, and spitting and puking onto the audience, etc, as he got older.  He was and is as entitled to change his viewpoints and beliefs over time as a politician is to jump ship to another party or a rebellious teenager settles down into a more conventional family life.

  • A while back Mrs J and myself went for a one night break in a part of our county that we had never visited before on a Groupon deal. It  was nice, an old water mill.

We went into a charity shop whilst there and I bought No Dogs etc, Lonely Boy by Steve Jones and a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers T shirt for the princely sum of a fiver.

I enjoyed both books, bit too fat for the T shirt now though.

John does come across quite badly these days imho. When Nora died and he released that lovely respectful tune I thought he'd turned a corner.

  • Well said @BillDL ; ... I wasn't into punk or the Pistols back in the day ... had my own one man rebellions to deal with.

However, I'd go and see him in a town near me if the opporchancity presented itself. He's had a life very different to mine so naturally I'm curious and interested.

Plenty of time to give a view afterwards.

I don't think he's sold out at all, he's always been indistinguishable from Jeremy Clarkson to me.
