1963 Jazzmaster

This is quite a painful one to put up - for a few reasons!

For sale is an all original - bar a refret - 1963 Jazzmaster. Without a doubt the best guitar I've ever had the pleasure of playing, let alone owning. Everything about this is spot on - the neck is super comfortable - the pickups are beautifully clear and dynamic. The tremolo arm is really buttery and I was shocked at how well the guitar stays in tune - honestly better than any of my newer guitars.

I bought this this year after coming into a bit of money - but it wasn't a particularly well thought out move, and I can't justify having so much dosh locked up in one guitar right now with a young family. It's going to hurt though! Just the wrong time.

It currently has a Jag bridge fitted but the original is in the case wrapped in bubble wrap. I don't know the weight and don't have any scales right now but I'd guess it was 8lbs.

Beautiful white case as expected in 1963 - in good condition, sturdy and not falling apart at all.

The frets have tonnes of life on them, and are quite big compared to what you'd expect on this guitar - but I think it makes it more playable. It's recently been set up and feels great with 11's on it.

I'm based in Berkhamsted, Herts, but could travel a decent way.

Looking for exactly £10K - many thanks

Crikey mate doesn't get much better than that. Big frets too. Frets are like tyres. It's not 1963 any more. The roads are different

That's a sweet '63, alright. Bigger frets for the win!

That's painful. You should keep it for the kids...?

That was one of my justifications for buying it - but I think they'd rather I had some extra dosh for sweets and stuffed animals right now!

But as a responsible parent you're thinking of their long term welfare, dental health and the environmental damage from disintegrating plastic soft toys...

  • thank you for the nice words! I just took it to a rehearsal to show some friends that hadn't seen it. I wish I could have filmed my friends response. He said 'I've never played a guitar that has absolutely nothing wrong with it. It completely gets out of the way and lets you just think about playing'. Which I agreed with of course, and for a 62 year old guitar I think that's pretty exceptional.

This obviously will come across as cheesy sales pitch - but it was said!

Oh and he marvelled at the intonation up the neck which is quite oddly remarkable really. Not sure if that's common with golden era Fenders - but it is weirdly bang on all over.

  • I played a 61 Jazzmaster at Studio 1 vintage guitars in Auckland while on holiday, on the first strum I just knew it was magic. I couldn’t imagine parting ways with it, no matter how much my children may need those sweets and stuffed animals! Good luck with the sale, hopefully I win the lottery before anyone else takes it from you.
