Having had mine for a couple of days now, I can echo @chris78  findings….cleans up beautifully, 2 channels are wonderfully flexible and very true to the J20. Still finding my favourite settings…seems hard to find a bad sound….and this is all through the Blue J. Paired with a boost (boost side on KOT) before and after The J, there are so many flavours to play with. Well done Adrian & Jesse…

Has anyone found any good videos showing the cleaner tones?

Most have obviously shown off its drive side but there are some clean-ish tones here, around 8:40.

this is a good choice of video,  Jesse was adamant that we focus on cleaner sounds when developing the pedal, its why the X and Y switch was added, its job to lower the temperature a little and make the pedal more blanched and versatile.

Thanks @NorthernStomps ;; The clean tone was a bit short & sweet, hopefully there will be many more videos further down the line.

I think my favourite video I have seen so far is this one. The 1st time I’ve ever watched his channel, but his commentary as he is playing & twiddling the knobs is really good.

It’s a lovely pedal, and has cured (at least temporarily) my desire for a tweed amp.

What amps are the forum members playing the pedal through?

Mine arrived today and must say it’s absolutely superb. I had the Origin Effect version but this sounds more amp like, and a lot more alive.
Special thanks to Northern Stomps for 10% discount.

I’ve run mine both in front of my TKIPreamp pedal or into the front of my Carr Mini Mercury. Sounded fab through both, and allows for that thick, lose-low-end, saggy experience at reasonable levels or via headphones.

There is a little bit of overlap with both the lead channel of the TKIP, and the Carr, but The J goes 110% of the way to Tweed and add another tonal option.

    Pleased with it so far.

  • I’m very interested in picking one of these up… however my needs are at opposing ends of the dirt spectrum. I love tweed cleans for country playing, but I also need the saggy Neil Young thing. I love my UAFX Woodrow as it covers everything, but I don’t like it in front of a real amp (which of course it’s not designed for, but some people seem to think it works).

Does The J do both? I’ve read a couple of people saying it doesn’t quite do the full blown out tweed sound, but I’m just as open to people saying that it does!

its designed to give that tweed sound but with more at both ends of the spectrum, itll do the cleans thing very nicely in 12ay mode and supply full up. itll do the blown out tweed thing great too in 12ax7 mode with supply down (limiting headroom on tap). this is of course dependent on your pickups output, but if your pickups are week by design, a light boost into the J pushes hit into that NY sound easily.

  • Thanks @ThorpyFX - that’s a very useful and pleasing response! I expect it’ll enjoy having my Fat General in front as well. I do tend to use low output tele pickups so the boost thing is relevant. Great stuff.

I see you’ve got this on eBay and wondering if there’s anything about the pedal you don’t like so much after using it for a while now, any negatives or issues? Thanks.
