I will only use the plugins in the quad cortex and looking for more rock tones,  I'm very torn between the slo and the gojira packs.     Am I right in thinking the gojira has a good 5150 sound?

The gojira is considered the absolute gold standard 5150 plugin. It's superb. It's an EVH III and you get the green and red channels plus a clean amp.

The Nolly, Rabea and Misha also have 5150ish but the Gojira is the king.

The Misha is a super cool plugin though. You get a superb clean amp a Friedman and a Peavey invective which is the Misha version of the 6505.

Thanks. I’ll probably order go for the Gojira while it’s on offer.     I used to gig with with 5153 and it’s probably the best life sound I’ve had so it’s worth a try.

Been doing a bit more trying out. I've already bought 4 plugins (Morgan, Gojira, Nameless, Dark Glass), but I'm seriously considering some more.

    Tim Henson
The acoustic sim works reasonably well although I'm not sure I'd use it.
The clean amp is very good although it's a Matchless which is already in the Asato and is very similar to the AC30 in the Morgan.
The second channel in the Henson amp 3 is actually a different amp and is also a very cool amp.
The lead amp is a nice enough soft sounding Marshall thing, but can't really do rhythm or high gain.

The harmoniser thing isn't something I'd use and the FX are a bit basic so I don't think it's something I'll go for.
Overall it's good, but a pass.

I renewed my trials of Misha and Rabea.

    Rabea
I really want to like the Rabea, and I've given it a really good try.

I still think the synth is a gimmick I'd never use and makes it one of the most expensive plugins.

The clean amp is fantastic. The rhythm amp is fairly good, but not mind blowing and the lead amp is just not all that special compared to the other 5150 based amps.

The FX collection is great especially the fuzz and it's great having 6 cabs available, but I don't think I can justify getting it.
    I think it's a pass

    Misha
The more I try this, the more I love it.
The FX are spectacular and the most comprehensive of any plugin, the clean amp is superb and breaks up into a fantastic crunchy classic rock drive.
The gainy amps are very focussed on djenty metal, but are actually quite versatile.
This is one I think I'm probably going to end up getting.

    Soldano
    This one is a curveball.
The FXs are fairly mediocre and I stand by my belief that the clean channel on a Soldano is boring and the crunch channel is boxy.
The lead channel is however sublime.
It's great for 80's metal and it can do the heavy stuff, but the real magic is for lead. It's just unbelievably good. The Jack Gardiner lead preset had my jaw dropping.
Torn about this one, it's a bit of a one trick pony, but wow what a trick.

I'm still thinking about the Mesa Mk2.

There's something about the crunchiness of the mids that I really like. Might just be because I grew up with the church of Hetfield, but it just sounds ace and I think I'd like to record with it.

I really am talking myself into this! :D

    You and me both.

I haven't tried the Mesa suite and at this point I'm not sure I dare to!

Have you tried the John Petrucci as I think that models the JP-2C.

I haven't tried the JP - I'm only an occasional DT fan and some of the demos of the plugin didn't sound quite right for my taste. Probably too heavy on the FX for the demos.

When I did the Mk2C demo I think I only got through auditioning about 3 presets before I decided it was going on the list.

As an aside I do need to get some sort of midi foot controller for the plugins. When I record I like to record the FX live as I play to the FX and it never sounds as good to me when adding them after. I don't mind adding verb and compression after, but delays and modulation have to be live for me.

I did try the John P.

I ruled it out quite quickly because I wouldn't use the acoustic simulator and it's by far the most expensive plugin (prior to JM).
The cleans were pretty nice, and the 2 gain channels seemed like different voicings of the same core sound, but sounded good.

I found the FX annoying as there are pages of them, but they are all quite vanilla (no clean blend on the compressor for example) and the knobs were really hard to read.

Given I was demoing so many things in a relatively short amount of time I probably didn't give it enough love.

    Caved and bought Misha!

I'm resisting the Soldano for the moment.

    Maybe one for black Friday!

    I bought the Mesa Mk2C.

It sounds great - just really crunchy. My LP type is currently in C# standard and it has excellent clarity and bite.
Can't wait to record with it!

Even for heavy stuff I like to set a tone with humbuckers but then actually record with single coils. The difference controls my habit of over-gaining everything! :D

Singles also make me practice more as I can't hide sloppiness as much with distortion.

It does - there's a real dirty clarity with it, and then when double tracked it's even better.
