Welcome to the 34th Poopot's Cover Challenge

If you want to cover something different then you can choose any song beginning with U or The followed by U. But if you cover the chosen track you will automatically receive a bonus 5pts as a head start (and that can come in very handy when you win by 1 point)

You may wish to submit artwork to go with your entry. It brightens up the playlist and might subliminally get you more votes but it's not mandatory

We're having temporary issues with SoundCloud access, but once it's sortef I'll start off the playlist with a return to something a bit daft

I've done EMF's Unbelievable but if it was originally a contemporary Nashville Country song. Was good fun to dust off my old Telecaster as I hadn't played it in ages

U is one of those letters for me where there are plenty of songs i like, but none that i really love. Difficult letter

I have a few I love, but I kinda want to hold those artists for later letters and not repeat. 

But who knows. I’m leaving my job in Feb so… no wait I’ve seen deadline… I’ll try my best…

I hardly ever love the songs I cover. It can be good fun to destroy songs you can live without 

I think U is fine. W and Y have lots of fantastic songs. V and Z less so but there is material out there. X will be a struggle although I already have a track for it!

That's the benefit of everybody having a different approach i suppose. i don't really enjoy the process much if i don't love the songs,  and therefore turn out stuff I'm not very happy with i guess

granted X and Z are fucked. Can we get “things starting ‘ex…’” as an exception? (No pun intended…)

There are actually a lot of songs beginning with X. We won't have heard most of them because they're largely R'n'B. I was assuming we'd most likely all do the same Olivia Newton John or Rush.

For me W will be a challenge because there are so many good songs to choose from

Z has a few. Tom Petty, U2, Cherry Popping Daddies and Rammstein immediately spring to mind. Cranberries is too obvious

Searched my mp3s and came up with 3 songs beginning with U. I've ruled out Ugly by The Violent Femmes, so it's a straight toss up between the other two.

Happy New Year all. We now have a fully functioning SoundCloud account again and I've started a playlist

I've sent one in.  A little bit of Squeeze.  Most of the work on this was transcribing the various keyboard lines which work to make each verse sound a bit different.  I believe the original was a Polymoog (before Jools went strictly boogie-woogie piano), which I don't have a VST for, so I used a Minimoog one instead.  Nice drum part to transcribe as well, I think that the fill after "if there could be another" is one of my all-time favourites.   Straightforward but effective guitars and bass.  Vocal is maybe a little too high for me but I tried.  I quite like the verse where it drops down to the synth strings and Moog bass.

Haha woohoo!! 

Though honestly I just spent a good hour on a flight trying to work out what I could do acappela purely sung into a phone…. Which might be a good challenge anyway
