Boss vs Line 6 wireless

I’ve used the Shure GLX in the past and I like the form factor and we use it for mics. Less keen on the price for a new guitar lead replacement,

I’ve seen three of the cheapo wireless dongles physically break on stage in recent weeks in different outfits I work with. I’m put off them although I could use a male to female 1/4”  link cable but then may as well have a belt pack.

I am drawn to the Line 6 G30S or Boss WL60 or possibly.. WL50

Any experiences/reasons for one over the other?

The Boss stuff is much newer but still works on 2.4ghz. This can be fine but my most recent experience of 2.4 is if you're anywhere that is busy (city center/ lots of punters) you will have issues. I didn't have the funds for the new Shure GLX so grabbed the Blackstar Airwire. Yes they are dongles but they are 5,8ghz, pretty well built and they were a life saver. I just did 40 gigs pretty much straight through and they never missed a beat.

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

I have the boss one and mostly its been really good but in a couple of venues I have had drop outs. They are places with pillars and stuff in the way though. Very simple to use.

Did you mean the Line 6 G30 (belt pack) or the G10S (the pedalboard / pro version of the G10)?   I'm not sure that the G30 is still available.

I've had a G30 for more than 10 years.  The only problems are that the belt clip is prone to breakage and the battery cover isn't the most secure.  I resoved both of these issues in one go by purchasing a 3d printed holder which fits to my strap.

I may stump up for the dual band Shure.  I do run the mixer on 5Ghz to avoid risk of congestion.

i’d heard about the belt clip issues with the Line 6 and I’ve seen too many dongles with rotating barrels break to really trust them anymore.  I swap instruments quite a bit and belt pack is just a cable swap.

    Thanks for the feedback..

    Worthy of mention:

I borrowed my friends Boss WL unit and the dongle form factor meant that when it was plugged into my guitar - Suhr Classic Pro - it fouled the tremolo arm and it therefore hampered its use for different trem techniques like gargles etc.

A small thing, but very annoying.

So yeah, an extension cable to eliminate that may be required.

I've been using a XVIVE U2 for a couple of years.  Before that had a Line 6 G30  (agree with the comments above)/

The U2 has been faultless so far  for countless numbers of gigs.

My Xvive U2s stopped charging properly after a while which was a pity because they worked well. I've now got some Boss WL-20s but I've not used them very much.
One day I'm going to make a guitar out of butter to experience just how well it actually plays.

I've had great success with Line6 G90 (rack mount). I've also got a G50 (pedal form factor) but I've never used it in anger.

Do you have a link for that @Musicwolf  ;? I'm currently using a neoprene pouch for my G30 which seems to work fine, but it's be interested to see what that holder is like

@flying_pie ; I don't know if this is the same one as the one that I bought, but it's remarkably similar.

    Thanks @Musicwolf ;

I like the way that leaves the channels and indicators exposed. My pouch obscures that. Might try some surgery on it, safe in the knowledge I could get that as a backup

That's for posting that. If only I'd known about it 6 months go... I might get one anyway and get the Xvive back up and running.

Amazon are selling the u2 in grey for £69. Ordered one as a spare but that’s a bargain.

That's cheap assuming they're genuine. I've actually ordered some replacement batteries for mine so together with my Boss ones I'll have two wireless systems, which is one more than I'll ever actually need.

I bought a set as a backup.   They look genuine compared to my other ones, identical box, appearance, case candy etc..
    Seller is ivor mairaints.

I gigged a Line 6 G30 for years without a single problem. I can't comment on the Boss systems.

After having a few 'issues', I spoke to the owner of SmoothHound who openly admitted that Line 6 have it sussed.   I bought a used G75 and it's built like a tank.  Not one dropout despite some very busy environments.  I epoxied the belt clip as it had previously had a hard time but now I just have a short lead and keep the transmitter in my back pocket.  I also have a Mk1 G10 that works very well although I upgraded to a Boss type 9V power socket rather than the USB setup.

I’ve gigged a G30 for donkey’s years with no problems except the belt clip issue right at the beginning, It too has been in my back pocket for hundreds of gigs and rehearsals and its still going strong.
