Toto's 'Rosanna' has a superb solo from Steve Lukather...
Some of y'all have a funny definition of "pop"...
I suppose a grey line as to define what is pop - I would agree that Rosanna is pop - My definition would be based on released as a single with R1 and/or R2 playtime - Other similar radio stations available

somebody's going to mention Tony Peluso on Goodbye to Love by the Carpenters.  It might as well be me.
    Phenomenal solo

I'd actual pick everybody wants to rule the world as the Tears for Fears song with a good solo

Keith Scott on Everything I Do, I Do It For You is exceptional, especially live.

I don't know if it's "pop" but rock dickheads hate it and it sold a bajillion copies so I guess it is maybe. Anyway, it's brilliant and everyone who says otherwise is a closed minded idiot
100 % agree about Everything I do - Could probably add many Keith Scott solos to your list especially from Reckless

Louis Shelton's solo on Hello by Lionel Richie is pretty amazing. And Chris Hayes on Huey Lewis and the News' Power of Love too.
    Agree on both accounts

Based on my above comments about a R2 playlist then that makes various Steey Dan songs an option , especially do it again - Many would say Reelin' in the years

Agree about the Knack and My Sharona and would add I want you to want me - Cheap Trick

And if we are on about pop solos then EVH + MJ and Beat It surely comes into play

And one of the greatest solos from a hit single - Rock a round the clock - Bill Hailey and Danny Cedrone

I'm sure there are many many other great options - But will leave it at that

    No.
Lol sorry. In that case I'll suggest the lesser known Blow Rancing in a Surning Doom by Mon Jayer

Roxette's Listen to Your Heart has a prominent solo.

Does To Be With You count as a pop song? I'd say so, and Paul Gilbert's simple little solo is certainly the best thing about it.

My favourite is Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

Spirit intended is 'what's a song with an un-expected and great guitar solo?' rather than just stuff off the same old 100 greatest guitar solos of all time. Of course a Prince/Toto/Thin Lizzy song is going to have a nice guitar solo... more interested in when one pops up as a pleasant surprise.

  • On the topic of Ed Sheeran - the one in Dive (played by Eric Clapton funnily enough). Got melody, phrase and space. Not a widdly solo but well shaped.

Could be Luke as he's credited on the album along with a couple of other guitarists, but it doesn't state what tracks

I always liked Reflections of My Life - Junior Campbell with Marmalade - in the days when you had to turn the tape over to play a reverse guitar solo. And he played left-handed

I was going to say EVH on Wacko's 'Beat It', but then I remembered I not only hate the song but I hate the solo too.

Robert Plant - Addicted to love (short, but again nicely crafted) (Eddie Martinez)

    John Waite - The Choice:

It's a great early 80's piece of music and John McCurry plays the solo at 1:58

Another older one that I like is Live Wire - Hit & Run Driver:

The solo is at 1.21 on this.
