There’s a fantastic solo in StillThe One, by Orleans, all the more remarkable as it’s a duet in unison from two guitars - terrific sound:

    Great stuff, saved thanks.

When a playlist opens with One and Only it must be good!!
I must be a narcissist, God knows that I can't resist, to make a song and dance about it?

If we're talking pure modern pop (I would argue the lines really are blurred when looking at the guitar-heavy "pop" of yesteryear), the solo in Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan is a bit of a banger...

I was listening to this song recently and thought bloody hell whoever the guitarist in this band is can play just like Steve Vai

Turns out it's because it's Steve Vai.

Interestingly the actual guitarist in the band is an absolute beast and does do a reasonable approximation of it live.

Solo at 2:50 for anyone keen to jump to the shredding.

I was listening to this one the other day to see what the fuss was about, and realised its the chorus is practically the same as Can We Pretend by P!nk:

From 1:48 with the splendid Justin Derrico outro...

    Maybe.
    No.
    No.

Great solos but in totally expected places thus missing the point of the thread.

    Yellow card.

The Nina Simone from way back there is what I tend to think of when I think of a great solo - in some ways one of the melodic hooks of the song. If we're allowed to go back that far, then Les Paul's solo on How High the Moon is one of my favourite solos ever.

    If these are pop (ish):

This reminds me of a recent occasion where I turned on my regular radio station in the car,Gold Radio North West, and I joined the song in its middle and didnt recognise the musical interlude/solo as it was so different from the main theme,I thought. It was only when the familiar chord progressions came back that I recognised it was My Sharona. In my view it seemed a bit long but that might have just been my perception given I'm a fan of shorter ditties overall.

Andertons were doing an Eric Clapton thing the other day and reminded me of Bad Love. The cheesy synths date the song but it's a great solo.

No Alibis also has a cracking solo (the second one, from memory?). Simple but great composition and feel.

I will always say Queen - but it's often less expected songs where the solo kicks hard

    or rather more obvious ones
