You can argue a case for Ozzy being or not being a musician of note but I don’t think you can argue that Sabbath weren’t a far more influential and therefore more important band than Floyd. 

Written as someone that listens to a lot more Floyd than Sabbath these days.

Whether he's right or wrong (and I think he's wrong - Sabbath were far more influential than PF could ever dream of being) - is something of a moot point.  It was an incredibly tone-deaf thing to say at what was a sad time for many.  If you want a parallel, think of Trump's crass, moronic comments following Rob Reiner's death.

Jack Osbourne's riposte was about right.  "My father always thought you were a c*nt – thanks for proving him right."

While he’s entitled to an opinion on what music he does or doesn’t like, unfortunately he chose a totally inappropriate moment to air it. Typical of him, he really is a bit of a twunt. 

Ozzy might not have been a great musician and he certainly wasn’t the best singer but he was the unique voice of a groundbreaking band that made a massive contribution to metal music. He totally deserves the recognition for being a major component of that.

Quite apart from disagreeing with his opinions, I'd like to point out that almost everything Waters said in his initial and later comments was factually incorrect.  "Karen" Osbourne, Ozzy "biting the heads off chickens"... he's about as knowledgeable as the average Sun reader.

He clearly knows next to nothing about either Black Sabbath or Ozzy Osbourne, so why did he feel the need to mouth off in the first place, and at a time when the Osbourne family were still grieving?

If Waters was half the genius he seems to think that he is he wouldn't need to make such stupid comments. 

Ozzy cared about his fans and admitted how much he owed them. Waters built a wall to separate them from him.
