He’s one of my favourite songwriters, and I do think qualifies as a genius on occasion.

I also don’t think he’s entirely wrong about Ozzy, although not so much about Sabbath.

He’s still a dick though. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

I've read Ozzy's book, smiled at his antics now and then and quite like some of the music. But being dead doesn't give you a pass and suddenly turn you into a saint. Everything Waters said is true as far as I can tell. To be fair a rockstar who tried to kill his wife and got charged with attempted murder is very lucky to have a career at all. In normal circumstances none of us on here would be ok with that. Years of drug and alcohol abuse, letting people down, letting his family and band members down. It's funny in anecdote but at the time those events affected real people for years.

I quite like the fact Roger is who he is now. In his own way he's more punk now than the supposed real punks who wanted the dinosaurs of rock like pink Floyd out were. He speaks his mind even if it goes against the flow of the general public at the time.

^^ Some of that is obviously true, but imagine (God forbid) your father/wife had just passed away and someone goes onto a public forum and publicly disses them in a very cruel and unpleasant manner.  How would you feel?  And not only slags them off as a person, but dismisses the huge contribution their career made to their field of endeavour.

Waters should have kept his mean-spirited thoughts to himself.  I look forward to seeing what his contemporaries have to say about him when he shuffles off.  Much of it won't be nice, and it's a shame he won't be around to hear it.  Not that he'd have cared, such is his ego.

... why did he feel the need to mouth off in the first place, and at a time when the Osbourne family were still grieving?
I'd refer you to Osbourne Jr's comment.
I just assumed that someone asked him what he thought, and he was simply incapable of saying it's sad he's gone but he was never my cup of tea.
I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Could’ve have just been a decent bloke and said something along the lines of “wasn’t a fan of his music, but my condolences to his family” and moved on.

but Waters just can’t keep his mouth shut. No one loves hearing him talk more than himself.

38 minutes for the Ozzy bit.  If you go to 36 minutes you'll get two minutes of him talking about Jeremy Corbyn and Michael Foot.

At 35 minutes he’s saying that Maggie and Tony Blair should both have been jailed for war crimes. Which is an odd stance for a Putin apologist

I presume he wasn't slagging them off as irrelevant idiots.

There aren't many things more irritating than a pontificating hard-left musician who has $300m sitting in the bank.

I'm of a similar mind, except that my opinion remains - unhinged.
