Ed Sheeran signature PRS SE

Saw the news post and immediately came here to see the reaction… but don’t think it’s been posted yet

https://uk.prsguitars.com/blog/post/meet_the_ed_sheeran_se_cosmic_splash_limited_edition

I mean, it looks fine really but not sure I’d ever buy a guitar that distinctive and associated with a particular person (even if it wasn’t Ed Sheeran). Same reason I never got the Vernon Reid Vela despite really wanting a Vela with a trem.

Can’t decide if it’s folly on PRS’ part (are Ed fans really going to buy the PRS over the acoustic signature?) or genius (tap a market that would never have considered PRS).

I'm not an Ed fan, but it's hard to argue he doesn't sell guitars with his name on them at this point.

He's still a cheeseball, but a friend of mine runs a music school for teenagers and he came along to their location to give them some promotion. Dueted with all 20+ kids on camera, listened to them play their own songs, donated a bunch of his branded equipment to the school. At the end she was chatting to him about how they'd been struggling for local funding and he pulled a cheque out of his pocket to write her two years funding on the spot. He came back later to do some unannounced street performances with some of the stand-out kids: just him and the kids, a PA, a set of decks, and a massive crowd all for free.

    Cheeseball, but a solid guy.

Incidentally I would love an SE Hollowbody Baritone in a boring colour scheme, so I hope they keep this in the range.

Well I suppose some fans will buy this as well as the acoustic signature.  I doubt its an either/or choice, as they're two very different things.  Personally I think it's hideous, but it's just a finish.

I think Ed seems like a good guy and it's cool that this guitar is genuinely something unique rather than just a stock model with different pickups or a custom colour.

It sounds like an odd collaboration but then he's joined up with the convenience store Spar for his next album

(Sorry, i do actually quite like Ed the man, and some of his music, and indeed this guitar actually - I'd have one but i suspect it's out of my budget range)

    Baritones. SO HOT RIGHT NOW.

Ed seems genuine, and I kinda dig the style of that.

  • Baritone with piezo, do PRS offer this without his artwork?

They don't.  But perhaps they will if it sells well.

As the factory is geared up to produce this, I suspect it’s only a matter of time until we see it in other finishes

Brill! I don’t want one but this is exactly the sort of innovation that people always complain companies don’t want to do, then complain when they do ot

I see that they now offer these in non-Vernon guise now.

I was going to post this release, but I knew my negative fever would take over.

    1. This makes PRS even LESS cool.
    2. My girlfriend even said 'this is incredibly ugly'.
    3. Sheeran fans interested in Baritone? I mean..perhaps?
    4. Ugly.
    5. The guy is a pop/marketing genius, and a solid songwriter for the pop beigeworld. He has achieved WAY more than I ever will. Full respect. I still cannot ever listen to his music. Pure nursery rhyme pop.
    6. The art looks like AI Jackson Pollock meets The Stone Roses take on Pollock.
    7. We have reached new heights of insane pricing. 1600 quid.

    I feel better now.

The PRS model of very high RRP but with near instant dealer discounts is… weird. I suspect it’ll be selling at least £300 below RRP within weeks.

This might be where I roll out the closest I’ve got to a celeb story… my ex was in school with Ed and friends with his brother. I had dinner with him once (the brother). At the time (20 years ago!) the general vibe was Ed was mucking about on guitars and it was unlikely to go anywhere!

That's a cool guitar. Also, Ed Sheeran is technically more talented than Noel Gallagher, so why shouldn't he get a signature guitar.

not trying to be provocative, but what exactly is innovative about this?

I actually doubt this as they are only making 1000 worldwide
