Just jammed and recorded with Nuno Bettencourt and Richie Kotzen.....

Yep, you read that right.

I've just come back from Nuno's Six String Sanctuary in Vegas, where we had classes and sessions with Nuno, Steve Vai, Richie Kotzen, Taj Farrant, Rick Beato, Eric Gales, Mateus Asato and others.

On the first day, Nuno was saying about how nobody can sound like us individually, or them - he recited the story of when he played through Eddie Van Halen's rig, and sounded like himself.

To prove the point, he invited me on stage to jam with him.... and it was a pretty nerve-wracking experience. But it was through his full rig (including the guitar he used at the Ozzy tribute gig) and had waaaaay more gain than I expected! The strap was also set for him, hence why it looks like I'm playing jazz.....

 

As part of the camp, we also recorded a song with Nuno, Richie on vocals, Derek Sherinian on keys, Marco Minneman on drums etc. I've never done a recording before, and this was all done in 5 mins in a couple of takes (I'm going to be working on it more at home as have the stems - and the engineer didn't set my level properly!):



The whole event was amazing; so many great stories from it, including playing on stage in front of Nuno and getting direct one on one feedback from him. Also having lessons with Doug Doppler and Larry Mitchell was fantastic, and finally understanding the modes after Rick Beato explained them to me!

That's amazing! Recording with Nuno and Kotzen.....dangggg that's the rockingest thing I've seen all, er, decade! Very pleased for you man.


So anyway......what are the Nuno brand guitars like

Not only that, but I spent a day at the AVN expo in Vegas as well..... proper rockstar week! Don't Google AVN at work....

I don't remember much about the guitar, but it played nicely and sounded great. I was impressed, but didn't get long enough on it to really try it.

Well I’m back  , watched the video 3 times and listened to the song . You acquitted yourself wonderfully in such a challenging situation  imagine jamming with a band of such calibre  with such an iconic guitar player  , you did a sterling job  the song sounds ace too. Well done . I always enjoy seeing stuff like this

Speak for yourself, for many of us this would have been exactly the right time to -gotta blame the fallout on something.

Admittedly it wasn’t cheap, but we actually got more than expected - I had this jam with Nuno, we got to record with him, the group photo, jam rooms every night (with Nuno often coming in to play drums) etc.

*obvs I know the angry old man who decided to eschew his incredible talent and just make videos about his dislike of the modern world.
