Yeah they seem to be a popular choice. Have you compared it to any other options?

Behringer A800 Reference Amplifier.

Don't laugh, they are a clean Class D with no fan. (No fan, no noise)

 8 Ohms Per Channel, Stereo: 220W

4 Ohms Per Channel, Stereo: 400W

8 Ohms, Bridged Mono: 800W

I've had no problems running the amp in the last three years.

£145 new.

You can run any amplifier into a guitar cab ...  a guitar cab is just a rather poor fidelity but sensitive mid range speaker in a box 

I gigged a Marshall pre amp into a Rotel Hi Fi amp into a Marshall 4 x 12 for about 2 years .. I just made up binding post to jack cables

Yes, but it's 800Watt at 8 ohm, bridged mono, so don't turn it up very loud in your low watt guitar cab. 

Or, just get some speakers that can handle the wattage.

Duncan powerstage 170 ..but thats mono , sounded good though !

I’ve been using a Quilter Tone Block TB202 with a FM9 for the past 2 years. It works very well and could work as a self contained amp in the absence of a modeller. I really appreciate the tone controls which are handy to tweak according to venue / position of speaker cab. Last weekend, I was playing at a venue where I had to place my cab in the corner of the room - a quick lowering of the bass control really helped to even the sound out without having to think about tweaking the presets.
