Tape Delay Pedal with presets

Apologies for another thread on delay pedals but having spent some time thinking  and watching videos as well as playing with different sounds in my DD500 (for sale) I am wanting to buy a tape delay pedal.
I want one that has tap tempo, subdivisions and the ability to have a 3 or 4 presets. I've watched a few videos of the Empress Tape Delay and it sounds great but I understand that if you're in preset mode you can't use tap tempo which is a shame.

One option is the Strymon Volante but it's very big. Any other recommendations? There's options like the Boss DD200 but I think I want to focus on tape delay.

Other things to note is that I only play mono and I don't use MIDI so don't want to rely on preset switching for that. A dedicated preset footswitch is the most favourable. Also I have a reverb so don't want a reverb/delay pedal just a dedicated delay.

Budget is about £250 new or used

Thanks

I think I saw that it doesn't have subdivisions?

It's not really a tape emulator, and it doesn't have subdivisions, but I'd STILL suggest checking it out for the OP - imho tapping what you want to hear instead of tapping quarter notes and relying on divisions has always made more sense to me (although I get that depending on tempo it might mean you have to tap super fast and if so, fine, subdivisions) , and while it's not trying to be a very detailed tape model (it's not simulating wow and flutter and suchlike) it's far more tape-like in its general 'not bright, not dark' tonality, and the other (secondary) controls will leet you tune it to be pretty tapey
    Red ones are better.

It does, but selecting them is a faff, and contrary to what I thought previously, the selected subdivision applies globally across all presets.

Boss really need to have a word.

HX One has 2 great tape delay models on it: Transistor Tape (Echoplex) and Cosmos Echo (Space Echo). Can do all the subdivisions and presets stuff, tap tempo too obviously.

I have a HX One but use it for modulation. I want a separate delay

I think the Keely Eccos ticks all the boxes?

And if you’d rather buy Canadian than American this seems cool. Three presets, tap, subdivisions, reverse delay.

I have only recently come across Coffee Shop Pedals. I like the idea of that one but having subdivisions highlighted by LED colour could be confusing (for me) - think it would have been better for the UI to have them on a toggle switch.

Yes I'm fairly tempted by that

I still think the Timefactor is one of the best delays out there. Parallel paths, fully independent, subdivisions etc etc and great sounds.

The only small pain is the preset switching is much better with an external 2-button aux

The Source Audio Nemesis will do what you want. Seems to fly under the radar, but it's a fantastic pedal.

One of those pedals with a learning curve. If you don't want a large format pedal or something with a screen I guess there will always be a bit of that.
Based on one demo it sounds good and covers some of the dubbier noises that I like.

The Strymon El Capistan sounds great - I guess the only downside is needing a Favourite switch to get a preset - but only one?

Theres a Walrus Mako in the classifieds which I think does all the things you're asking (and a load more)

Thanks. I did look at them but would want the v2 with the screen.

I like the Eccos but also really like the Volante and El Capistan. There seem to be no El Caps used for sale weirdly.

I'd give up on worrying about size & make the only sensible choice: Timeline or Flashback X4*

*I hear you all laughing the back. Name another multi-delay that has solid sounds, subdivision switch, tap tempo & 3 presets in a super-simple layout? Yes, the DL4. But this sounds better & I'll die on that hill.

  • The EQD is one of my fav delay pedals. It is cheap, compact, has six presets, a ‘live’ function as well, and one of its three voices is tape. You could make all six presets tape. https://www.earthquakerdevices.com/silos
