Finger injuries temporarily halting playing

I managed to squash my left hand ring finger between 2 dumbbells in the gym last week.
Bit of swelling that's receded but I still can't fret a note with it - I've got adept at using my little finger instead.

Minor injury getting better but I really missed not playing guitar and bass for the first few days. Made me realise how much I enjoy the hobby.

So what's the worst finger accidents you've had and how long were you out for?

  • Dislocated ring finger on left hand - a few weeks but I worried that wasn't coming back...

Broken collar bone - a couple of months (I could use my left hand so I did a bit of practising without my right hand)

Currently trigger finger on my left middle finger is making things a bit challenging. Think I need to go to the docs for an injection of goo. I'm a bit like a cat at the vets when it comes to doctors!

Broke a bone in my left hand doing a wheelie on a bike, switched to one hand keyboards for a few gigs. Strangled left middle finger in a glove while using a cordless drill, couldn't play for 3 weeks.

Gor an arm injury falling off bike in the rain, had to have physio but seems ok now

My worst was a dislocated finger in rugby two days before my music GCSE practical exam. Teacher said that I needed a Dr's note, all the while wincing at my purple hand and a pinky that resembled a thumb (easy, tigers).
I've had worse injuries, but fortunately not withholding me from playing guitar.

Slammed doing a frontside rock and roll. Morphine is great for smiling.

I ruptured a tendon in my right hand middle finger - Mallet Finger.

Didn't heal fast - I was in a cast for about a year with loads of hand therapy appointments.

As mainly a fingerstyle bassist this was very annoying. I couldn't type properly for work either.

Nothing as bad as you guys have mentioned above - But about a year ago I was getting a painful spasm in my hand - Very spasmodic - Could play for 5-10 mins and all was good then a 'spasm' would grab me, often following a harder chord shape - Very painful but hit n miss - Moving on and following a couple of physio trips, it now appears to be good - Still do various exercises I was given - The physio was gob smacked that I just picked up the guitar to play and did no 'warm up' hand exercises before hand

I've never done anything bad to my fingers, but have had golfers elbow for ages that limits me for more than about 10 minutes at the moment.

I temporarily lost coordination in my fingers from a condition called Miller-Fisher syndrome. For a while I could strum some simple chords as if I'd been drinking but couldn't play leads. I stopped playing and took a break from the forum for over a year. It's completely recovered now thankfully

Fell off the front of my paddle board in the sea off Worthing in 2018.
As I did a “front side” the little  finger and 3rd finger of my left hand went through the bungee cord at the front of the board designed to hold a small waterproof bag. The board then flipped and effectively applied a tounaquet to these two fingers. My 3rd finger is ok ish but the little finger on my left hand is bent making it very difficult to play status quo riffs. I presume my little finger was broken at the time but I never bothered to get it checked out -doh!

Sliced through my right thumb and forefinger with a chisel. Managed to get through that night's gig with a fingerpick on my 4th finger.
