Recommendations for new recording pc

What's Hot
I have a Imac 2013 that runs really slow and some of the newer programs won't run on it ..it's the slow rotational hard disk as well

Any one have recommendations on what I need for decent multi track recording and decent software ....I'm not sure on pc or Mac but at present I'm running garageband and bias FX plus other bits for Mac like transcribe ..Ireal and some other bits

So I'm just looking for suggestions really on what to get ..I'm fairly clueless what I need and what I should be spending ...i was thinking Mac mini but then I would need another monitor which is ok

Anyways some suggestions would be really grateful :)

The Mac Mini is great value.
I know people running studios with them.
I prefer the Studio for ports but the mini is a valid option now.

I've been having similar thoughts about replacing my iMac, but am hesitant because of the Mini having the power button on the bottom.

@Habanero, why not go for another iMac? These days they are as capable as is needed for lots of digital audio and the power button is on the back, not the bottom. I have had 3 iMacs and each time the computer needs replacing the monitor is still working well and so it seems a pity to dispose of what is still working, hence the Mac Mini recommendation.

@Habanero looks like there's some solutions to that:

Basically because they don't make a 27" version any more.

That's definitely cheaper than the Studio alternative!

I'm fairly certain that the iMac can't be used as a monitor.

The Studio needs a solution when racked as it is on the back. Apple are really weird about this sort of thing. Give me a fucking power button on the front of the unit and damn the aethetics!

The iMac can be fitted with a faster SSD easily.
It can also be easily used as a monitor.
If buying an M4 Mini for basic DAW use, the 24GB/512GB model is the sweet-spot.
16GB/256GB is ok too, but you will need external storage if multitasking on it - putting sample libraries, games, and media on an external drive..

The iMac ... can also be easily used as a monitor.
Could you explain how an iMac can be used as a monitor for another (Apple) computer?

    Yeah.  PC’s too.
    Use Target Display mode.
Luna Display or Duet Display for newer iMacs.

Or you can get really into it…
