Many hits plus a prolific songwriter including Solitaire (Carpenters) and Ring Ring (ABBA).

Quite the musical output.

    Ahh sad news.
There was a period of my life when most of the music I listened to was my sister’s record collection and there was a best of Neil Sedaka in there and many of his hits are embedded in my brain. I’ve seen him on chat shows over the years and he seemed like a gentle, funny man. Not at all the rock star yet he’d had huge hits under his own name and the ones he wrote for others.
    RIP.

That's very sad news, a childhood hero of mine as my mom only had one tape in her car, one side was Neil Sedaka's greatest hits (the other side Crystal Gayle).

Have always had a soft spot for singing along to his tunes, always seemed a very charismatic and charming performer as well.

Rest In Peace, Neil Sedaka, I'll be listening to Solitaire and Oh Carol before bed this evening
Suffocate me, so my tears can be rain. I'll water the ground where I stand, and the flowers can grow again

You don't realise how many songs he recorded and wrote until you look down the list

I recall Laughter in the rain was getting so much airplay during my first 'summer date'  in 1974 - So he'll always be part of my memories

    RIP Neil

Loved him to bits .......one of my music heroes
Brilliant songwriter  , pianist and lyricist .Wrote for so many others too .....like Carole King his ex-girlfriend .
An inspiration for more modern musicians in the same vein .....another hero ,Billy Joel amongst them .
I often play his songs on piano and was extremely pleased with a guitar transposition I did for a past band for Love will keep us together .

I remember he had quite a lot of success in the mid 70s when I was first getting into music. At the time I thought he was really chintzy and desperately uncool.

With the benefit of age, I realise what a great songwriter he was. Much like Carol King, I didn’t really appreciate just how many hits he’d written, for so many artists.

    RIP.

RIP Neil. Not a personal favourite but a constant presence through many of the time periods / genres I enjoyed. His body of work and influence is impressive.

Another link with the past fades.
Ten years too late and still getting it wrong

Recall reading years ago that Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Barbara Streisand and Carole King all attended the same school and think around  a similar time

    Some talent from that school

He wrote some amazing songs that never got much airplay too.  Well worth checking out his back catalogue.

Saw a fascinating documentary on him once when nothing else was on , one of his parents siphoned off his money I think .

To be fair, Sedaka only contributed the English lyrics to Ring Ring (at Ulvaeus and Andersson's invitation). The joy of the song is there to behold with the original Swedish lyric.

A proven hit maker. No question.

Can't understand how I missed this thread.
Neil Sedaka was one of the most influential prolific popular songwriters EVER & whilst not maybe currently in vogue, will be very much missed.
This programme was a respectful effort & covered much of Sedaka's creative output.
