I don't think there's a "gotcha" as such. It's just internet angst back and forth, and the summarisation of evidence that she and her boyfriend are not very nice people.

This actually makes me think a lot less of Danny Sapko.

He's got himself some nice press by revealing the fake YT guitar guy and he now seems to be focussing his channel around doing hit pieces on people.


She's a great bass player. If you've met many celebrities then you will know many of them are arseholes, it just seems a bit of a cheap shot.

I see her posts on Instagram sometimes. Possibly there is just a big cultural gulf between her and me (her apparent total belief in The Land of Opportunity) rather than jumping to the conclusion that she is an asshat; she seems pleasant enough in interviews. 90% of her music clips are basically the same fast slapping, bah di dah licks (that thing her father taught her) but the 10% is tasteful fretless or playing a funk groove. Again, I think Mohini and I probably have a bit of a cultural gap but  certainly she does have the chops. 
I had watched the Danny thing and I do like him but it didn't feel like his finest work.

I don't care about the insta wars- I just want to know if the music is good so I checked out her catalogue.

Maybe 20 years ago I'd have been interested in this- in my fusion shredder days, but it isn't for me now.
I don't think I'm hearing anything new- John McLaughlin was doing Indian influenced fusion with Shakti in the 70's and a lot of her other music sounds like recycled Tribal Tech played 20bpm too fast so it loses all its groove.

Danny Sapko makes me laugh, but I'd like to see more positive content from people overall.

I like her playing with Willow. 

The hyperspeed turbo slapping stuff is a bit naff, but I guess it gets the insta likes.

I don’t read it like that. His first reference to this was an opinion piece on AI music tools - and the apparent contradiction of MD having slagged off people who don’t have her level of craft, then flipping to promoting the very tools that might take food of the table of her and other talented musicians. (And he’s been at pains to say he things she’s a really good musician) 

The response he got was barbed and far more personal - and it’s that he’s responded to. 

And using the AI app in question to take MD’s music and create all the backing for that video made me laugh, because it also made the point that these tools take the hard-won outputs of creatives and spin it for the gain of others with no reward - it was a good way to make the point. 

It may be that the videos of his that get into your feed are this but he does more than that - including being entertaining. At which task he will appeal more to
some than others. IMHO etc.

I've watched and liked some of his other content. 

I would just rather he sticks to that rather than exposing musicians he disapproves of.

I don't think he's rebranding his channel as the new KDH. I certainly hope not as I quite like his silly stuff.

IIRC he made a short video about YouTube musicians shilling AI programs and it grew from there. I'm pretty sure if she hadn't made the video with the dog whistle comment about his relationship then it would have passed. There were a couple of other musicians called out in that video and they're hasn't been any flak or follow up.

She comes across as a very fake individual, as many of the influencers are. It's easy to appear nice in basic interviews but you see the change when a proper question is asked.

Very talented bassist though
