Lots is impressive about the Mac Mini. 

Taking the SPDIF output of a Fractal AM4 into the SPDIF input of a brand new MOTU Ultralite Mk 5... less impressive. 

48kHz sample rates match, MOTU clock source is set to SPDIF... Mac Mini keeps on reporting the MOTU clock source as internal. End result: crackle crackle crackle. 

Now I read reports of Tahoe having audio problems. Sigh. 

Edit: No different if I use the MOTU on its own or set it up as an aggregate device. The clock source stays INTERNAL within Audio MIDI setup.

And now the Ultralite is going back. Digital crackles not just on SPDIF input but when using DI guitar. Went back to the M4: no such crackles.
