Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen

So off we go again ! Something else to learn and spend my money on lol ! 
I play for myself and thought about playing to a backing track , having not really looked into this I've purchased some KRK Rocket 5 speakers (second hand) and it has been suggested purchasing a Focusrite 2i2 for me to connect my music too ? 
What else do i need to know please as this is all new to me . Thank you

You can connect your lap top and play your backing tracks along with your guitar through your speakers. The interface will allow you to do this. You can download a daw and use it also. Amplitube 5 might be interesting and ez drummer. Lots to see on youtube. All depends how much you want to do.   So connect your speakers and your audio device plug in guitar and play. Also have the choice of headphones.

You don't need an interface if you're just wanting to play along using your twin amps and pedalboard with Gigrig and you don't want to record. You could use a cable from the headphone out of your computer into the monitors. A 3.5mm TRS to XLR cable would do the job.

So I bought one and the speakers and the TRS cables etc , works a treat . Very impressed so say the least and had a whole weekend of playing about with it ! Thank you all for the advice even though I did place it in the wrong category !
