Help with Uploading Photos from Google Photos

Just wondering if anyone could provide some advice on uploading photos to threads from Google Photos?  I literally have no idea how to do this!  Many thanks   :)

I don’t think you can. Embedding a photo requires a hosting service which provides a URL ending with file name and an ‘imagey’ extension (unless you’ve got a forum subscription…then it’s easy).

What you can do is create a new album in Google Photos and upload one of more of your image files to it.  You can then set the "share" permissions to "anybody with the link" to allow people limited control as "view only" and copy the link to the album to paste in a comment here.  It will not embed any of the images and you can't create a direct link to any of the images in an album because of the way Google creates a very long hash value for each of the images.  The clickable link will open only to the album you created and show large thumbnails that can be clicked on to show the full sized images.

You will see a link to a Google Photos album containing one photo in this comment:

Many people don't like having to go off-site to view images and some people have an aversion to Google anyway.  There is also a privacy issue in that it will show the Google user names and profile images of anybody that visits the album while logged into Google at the time (i.e. every Android phone).  Some members here like to remain private and be known only by their forum user names.

Hi guys, thank you so much for this, really helpful.   Shame that it won't work but great to know that an album can be shared although the privacy thing is definitely an issue and probably wouldnt use it on these grounds alone.

    Really appreciate the replies!!

I actually looked at the "privacy" issue I mentioned .........

I don't think you have a user option to be able to share the link so that anybody with the link can see the photos (as opposed to being invited) AND force it not to show the Google user profile icons of people that have viewed the album.  I thought I had found a setting that might allow this but on looking more carefully I was wrong.
