NGD: Atkin 0037

What's Hot
I’ve heard great things about Atkin and was able to get one for myself today. This 0037 sounds superb, and is a nice change from my Gibson dreadnoughts, and it’s my only rosewood acoustic. I don’t usually go for aging but it’s contractually done on the Atkin and in comparison to the Murphy Lab (I’ve only seen it on electric to be fair) it’s night and day, the ML looks so plasticky for some reason.

And as a former resident of Canterbury it’s nice to have a guitar from a company there!

I have an 0-37S. They are beautiful guitars. The build quality, the subtlety aged finish and above all the tone!

Indeed! The tone is immense. I love these aging too, it’s the perfect level. Very, very subtle texture on the body and the neck just feels nicely broken in.

Lovely guitar, HNGD. I have an OM-28H Retrospective that I bought direct from Alister's workshop 13 years ago. It looks similar to your 0037. Beautifully made guitars that sound so nice. Enjoy!

They are fabulous guitars. They don’t make many so are pretty consistent too.

Excellent guitars - super light and resonant. I've yet to play an Atkin that wasn't addictive. HNGD. :-)

Congratulations on the new guitar. I have a 00037 and a Essential 000. Lovely sounding guitars in particular when I use a pick which is most of the time presently. Be careful of damaging the finish when using a headstock/soundhole tuner also string winders.

My daughter borrowed my Furch OM a couple of weeks ago.  I'm hoping that she starts to take the guitar seriously (she plays bass) so I can have an excuse to give her the Furch and get an Atkin.

What do you think of the 000? I have a secondhand here that I’m comparing against the 00 and I’m back and forth on which I prefer. The 00 is lots of top end and the 000 has much more bottom end, especially with a thicker pick I’d say both have a lot of resonance/overtones too.

I’m really pleased with it but my Essential 000 just about beats it in my view. If I had to keep one it would be the Essential.

Hmm dammit is this another one I have to play while making my decision.
How would you describe the 000? I’m wondering how “representative” the one I have here is. I tend to gravitate towards guitars with upper mids, so not as bright as Taylor but not too warm either. This 000 is pretty close to having too much warmth for me, the 00 really sings in comparison.

Great playing! Impressive writing too. I’d be hard pushed to choose between them, the 000 sounds a little brighter to me.
