He of Dr Hook fame.  I didn't like much of their later output but 'Sylvia's Mother' is a bona fide classic.

RIP.
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose

I was always amused by this track by the bunch of drunken, double denim drug fiends that were in the charts & getting airplay with 'Sylvia's Mother'.

    RIP Dennis.

Although Dr. Hook had some great foot-tapping songs like the perennial favourite "When You're In Love With A Beatiful Woman", I very much preferred some of their quirky, funny songs and also the slower love songs like "Years From Now", and the storytelling ones like "The Last Morning" and "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan", and Carry Me Carry".  In fact, when I think of my absolute favourites they were all the ones written by Shel Silverstein, where Dennis Locorriere sang the lead vocals rather than Ray Sawyer, and Locorrier's interpretation of them was splendid.  He had such an unusual wavering sound in his voice and quite lazy sounding diction that you couldn't mistake him for anybody else.

A fun band that toured with lots of members despite the cost because they enjoyed each others company. Dennis had a wicked sense of humour and always looked full of life. RIP

Another person here who grew up listening to Bankrupt in a fog of Moroccan and Lebanese smoke.  The album belonged to my mate's older brother and his mates, and they'd play  Dr.Hook and all that kind of American rock, country rock from that time.  I'd never have chosen Dr.Hook to listen to, but hearing all that stuff so often, it grows on you.  I like it now.  Good memories and they were a good band.  Fantastic vocals and harmonies.  I didn't know the names of any of the band, a bit "which one's Pink?" I'm afraid, but sorry to hear the guy I now know was Dennis Locorriere has died.  There's a little connection there.

yes, i often do several of theirs at open mics that go down well.  I'm a Millionaire, Everybody's Making it Big But Me,
I do Sylvia's Mother, and anyone under 35 doesn't understand the words ! (operator!). Oh yeah, Cover of the Rolling Stone goes down well too
Also More Like the Movies etc

Our wedding song was Years from Now - i was going to do that tomorrow as a tribute tomorrow night but it's been cancelled

I’m guessing you’d know Ray Sawyer too… wore a tatty straw cowboy hat and had an eyepatch.

Anyway, I digress. RIP Dennis. Sylvia’s Mother was a great track.
