Chrome Update

What's Hot
Chrome has just updated and moved everything around. I'm not normally one to complain when software updates abd things change a bit, but they've made the "Most Visited" buttons way smaller and added a google search bar in the middle of the window, literally 3 inches below the main url/search bar that has the same function. WTF?

Google are really pissing me off recently.

The big black page with the search box looks shit

I have chrome, why do I need a search box.

  • I used to turn off the icons for the 8 recent pages visited in the middle when a new tab is opened, but now I can't find the option in the settings.

    Any ideas?

  • I just want a browser capable of running extensions that doesn't natively give me a bunch of extra shit I don't need that I can't turn off. Is that so hard? Chrome used to do just that, and was a brilliant minimalist app. Now it's just getting fat and un-useful.

And don't get me started about the constant twatting with gmail...

I use, And really rate Chrome. I dont think its that bad :) doesnt really bother me, It works the same, and the aesthetics don't matter In my opinion.

Tbh, it works so well for me, that I'm considering a Chromebook for my schoolwork. Everything I need, nothing I don't. I have a desktop for my music production, so it should work for me! :)

Google probably won't put it back by themselves but a quick google should tell you how to switch it back if you really hate it.

It's probably a sensible move in the longrun.

Is it an NPAPI plugin because it's only specific types of plugins that are being banned.

It may well be an extension rather than a plugin.

If you're really considering a Chromebook and don't mind going second-hand, give me a shout. I may well be selling mine (Samsung Series 3) shortly...

Google may have been the saviour of the internet.... but they're starting to get on my tits too lately.  They keep trying to push the 'Hangout' app to my phone, trying to get me to sign up to Google+ and to change my Youtube login to my real name... and no amount of clicking 'No thanks' seems to deter their persistence.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

Firefox for me .... never had any problems, the ad blocker works a treat and it polite when something goes wrong - "Well that's embarrassing .."

Chrome has too much of the Google Big Brother syndrome about it. I don't like that way the company stores your browsing history.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

If you like Chrome, then there's always Chromium - the open source version, with all the Googley-eyes stripped out.
