    I paid £65 for my DR103 in 2004, £140 for my 73 DR112 about five years later.
    I'd happily pay £400 now.
    Ya bastid.

@ThePrettyDamned they really are something else. You played one?
Sadly, I've never even seen one in the flesh.  I'm desperate to try one though, any of them really - 50 watts of Hiwatt would be loud enough for anything, quiet enough for home and take pedals like a champ.

I'm making it my goal to hear one.  I'm hopefully getting a proper nice amp this year - I've made do with a peavey bandit (which is actually pretty sweet all things considered!) for a while, and plan to not upgrade until I can do it properly - either a custom MJW or a a vintage amp overhauled by him.
    Get a hiwatt.
I'm a bit scared, if I'm honest.  Apparently there are a lot of fakes around, and the brand has been passed from one company to another, including some less-than-reputable types...

But maybe I'll get myself clued up and find one.

What's the going rate now for a vintage 50w or 100w head?

I wouldn't believe half the hype mate.
Most people dont know what a hiwatt amp is, why would people fake it?

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Because they own the rights to the name now and think it's OK to make "old" ones as well.

Originals in top condition are worth more than reissues… too tempting for 'some' people.

Are newer ones still good amps? Or are the old ones the ones to go for?

The wiring in @loobs one looks incredible!

Matamp made a series of Hiwatt inspired amps a few years back.

Never seen one of these in the flesh.

    Major big amp porn here:

I played a (heaven forbid) Music Ground repro head and combo back in the day and thought they sounded just as good as my real one.

Audio Bros (90s US reissues) are also supposed to be good.

I actually saw the guts of said amps and they were nicely done.

Not quite as nice as a Harry Joyce-era Hiwatt of course, but still very respectable.

Tone Police will tell you otherwise though.

It's not about the quality of the amps, it's about the bad taste in the mouth you get with the new ones.
