Tech 21 Richie Kotzen Fly Rig RK5

So this thing seems to be available now at Richtone, GAK has a cheaper price but no availability it seems.  Figured a few might be interested anyway as an alternative to the regular Fly Rig.  I've not had a chance to watch the video yet but I do like the general idea of these from a functionality point of view.

RK5 SECTIONS AND FEATURES

• SansAmp tube amplifier emulator, is pre-voiced for clean tones. It includes 3-band active EQ, Level,
and Drive to adjust the overall amount of gain and overdrive.

• Reverb, within the SansAmp section, is based upon the Boost RVB pedal. It emulates the rich ambiances of a vintage spring reverb without clattery pings, canyons of doom, or other annoying artifacts.

• OMG overdrive, based upon Richie’s Signature OMG pedal, brings in the organic distortion of single power tube Class A amplifiers, but with a tighter, quicker and snappier response. Includes Level, Tone and Drive controls.

• Boost, within the OMG section, kicks in up to 21dB of pre-amp gain. It can be used independently to
boost the SansAmp and/or DLA functions, as well as on its own to boost the gain of your amp.

• DLA is based upon the Boost DLA pedal. It is voiced to give you the sounds of a vintage tape echo
and features Level, Time, Repeats, and Drift, which adds a random element to the modulation for authentic textures. A dedicated Tap Tempo switch makes it super simple to just tap in the delay tempo you want during your performance.

• All analog signal path; reverb and delay are mixed in parallel.

• All metal housing.

• Metal footswitches and jacks.

• 1/4-inch high-impedance input.

• 1/4-inch low impedance output.

• Silent-switching, custom footswitch actuators.

• Utilizes included “auto-switching” 12V DC power supply. Self-adjusts to 100V-240V. It can be used anywhere in the world with the proper plug/travel adapter for the host country.

Haven't seen the video yet but , goth Kotzen logo aside, the specs look more appealing to me than the standard one. Based on the video I watched a while ago ( for Guitarist/ MR I think? ) his entire rig is guitar- Fly Rig- amp. I think there would be a neat discipline in keeping it that simple and having the exact same rig wherever you go (amp aside) that all fits in a guitar case. I would, TBH, need a tuner though which is where it gets messy again.

Is the only difference the Plexi is replaced with the OMG?

Not sure, it doesn't seem to explicitly declare either way. I've never heard the OMG pedal so I'm not sure how it differs. I like the colour though!

As I read it the Kotzen had a more vintage style delay but that video says they are the same. Doh! The Sansamp voicing is slightly different and then the OD is different.

Didn't know about this product but just checked out a bunch of demos for the regular Fly Rig 5 and I must say, I'm taken with the clean to mild break up/crunch sounds. There's some strong funk sounds in it too and what do your reckon on them @monquixote ?

Like ETW says, a tuner really would've finished it off nicely but I'd still like to try one.

Nice idea and cheers to the OP @guitarfishbay for the post

I have a suspicion that the clean channel on the Fly Rig is similar to channel one on the TM60 in which case it can do some awesome funk goodness.

Somewhere I read Tech 21 suggesting pairing the Flyrig with their Power Engine. That would be a fairly complete, compact, lightish set up for £500ish, just take the Flyrig if you don't need your own amp.

I wouldn't bother buying a Power Engine. You can usually get the TM60 for the same price SH and that can be used as an amp in it's own right.

Boost can now be used on its own to boost the amp's gain. On regular flyrig 5 it only works in conjunction with plexi section. Quite useful change that is.

according to the Tech 21 site the boost can be used on its own.

And they are doing the OMG ( plus boost) as a stand alone pedal if anybody likes the sound of this but doesn't want the FlyRig.

Yeah, just read that, too. Maybe they updated it now to match rk5 functionality.
Boost on the early version I had didnt work on its own hence why I returned the pedal to GAK after few days of playing with it.

I couldnt deal with "OMG" being part of my board it's too "the only way is Essex" and wankery for me, especially with that massive conspicuous lettering

Randomly thinking about this - Flyrig meets the iStomp would be good. Something this compact but you could choose your own flavour of OD, verb, delay, etc, so everyone has a signature model! Anyway, random thought over... :(|)

Like a lineup on toneprints in one multifx?

that kind of thing. So, you buy a simple multi fx as blank/ empty hardware and just populate it with what you need. I know in many ways it isn't different than having a multi fx with 150 sounds and then programming it for the 4 you actually want but the idea of beaming only what you use into a pedal appeals to me. A lot of multi fx have a lot of potential to do amazing things but if all you want is OD, boost, a modulation, a verb or delay but in a box that will fit in your trench coat pocket then a digital/ toneprint/ istomp Flyrig style pedal would be the way to go.
