^Moeen Ali’s batting form is atrocious at the moment. But I’d keep him in the team because he’s the sort of player that will turn it on in style when it matters...in a semi final maybe. Decent bowler though. On current form half the Aussie team is better than Ali!

Can we have some cricket today please? 7 days of rain here in the east, that's enough.

Forecast at Southampton is fair with chance of rain dropping significantly as the day goes on. Not sure how effective the drainage is at the Ageas Bowl and I'm sure prep has been tricky but hopefully they can get the pitch ready.

WIndies not very mobile.  With Gabriel back, they will have 2 or 3 players they need to hide in the field.  Should be a lot of twos on offer for England on a big ground.

Wi at 202-6 looking below par at the moment, they may struggle to get anywhere near 300 if England keep the bowling sharp and stop dropping catches!

Scrub that Archer is 2-29 and Wi are now 202-8, they will struggle to get near 230 at this rate

So I see, 212 should be a breeze...should be, but there's always the good old English collapse never that far away.

What's wrong with Morgan? has he got the squits? bad pint?

Lucky Moeen isn’t playing, or we’d be down to eight.

In all seriousness though, the slow bowling situation needs to be addressed. For the 2019 season, both Rashid and Moeen can comfortably said to be bowling gash (AR is averaging 70 for the 2019 season in ODI cricket, Moeen over 90) and Root's nifty spell today rather shows up the current man being picked.

What about Woakes to solve the number 3 problem in the test team.  He couldn't do any worse than Ballance, Vince etc.

If his knees restrict him to 6 or 8 overs a day then not a big issue if he's batting at 3.  With Woakes and Stokes in the top 6, you could take a punt on Archer, Wood, or a second spinner lower down the order.

Very poor stuff from the Windies today, have they reached their peak and are now on the slippery slope downwards?

There are few things more pleasurable on a summer's day than to watch Joe Root batting. It's so elegant.

Yep, job done easily for England, W Indies gave up pretty early on this one.

Windies look a bit one-dimensional really. If their plan A of going hard with the bat and bowling a lot of short stuff doesn't work, they don't seem to have a plan B.

Why so down on Moeen Ali? He's the best finger spinner England have. The fact that he can also bat is a bonus (and a pretty big one when he's in form).

Our pace bowlers were bloody good today though!

Having Chris Gayle in that side is a bit of a joke. Yes he can still give it a biff when he wants to, but his running and fielding is even more atrocious than ever before. He strikes me as someone who won’t do it, rather than can’t do it, and that must cause a lot of strain within the squad.

Jack Leach is the best (finger) spinner we have.

On the evidence of Moeen's batting against Pakistan, Leach would probably be a better batsman too.
