Saw something from bygone days in the newsagent yesterday ........

......A copy of Loot.

I remember the days when I was always getting a copy and wading through all the ads looking for something to satisfy the GAS urges. More often it was a case of stand in tesco's and whip through the guitar listings, only purchasing if there was something of interest. The dreaded eBay killed it off to all intensive purposes, but it is obviously still out there. Someone must still be buying it.

Can't believe that it was a bit of a highlight of the day - the excitement of maybe finding something interesting!

That reminds me of something too… but I don't think it was called Loot ;).

Snap!  I was chatting about this with my bass player last night.  We were saying about eBay killing it off, (we thought it was dead too), and came to the idea that maybe Gumtree is perhaps more like Loot than eBay.  But not much to choose between them.

Completely unrelated but isn't it "for all intents and purposes" which, if you say it quickly, sounds a bit like "intensive purposes" but kind of makes more sense?  A more scholarly pedant than me (I?) will be along in a moment! :)

Not really, Loot was a national brand. That one says London, but they all looked pretty much the same wherever you bought it.

    Loot! You lot were modern.

I used to look through Exchange and Mart in the pre-Loot days.

now that I have heard of,     the only free-ads paper we've had round here in the last 20 years is,  as Russel  intimated - Trade-It.

A wee fact for those that haven't heard of Loot:

At one point, Loot's free-ads publication was published in 20 editions per week across the UK with a weekly circulation of approximately 180,000 copies.

When I was a kid, one of the weekly highlights was looking at all the full page picture ads for replica guns in Exchange and Mart.

Wish I could get a fully auto blank firing M16 nowadays.
