    @holnrew I'm inclined to agree, however it looks wrong if I crop it out :/

    @bellycaster cheers!

    for my part, I quite dislike the greying out of the field across the valley, however that's a camera issue. and Given that the camera in question is my girlfriends phone, it's not too shabby ;)

    good pic for a phone
    I edited it :
    I'd have stepped a little to the right, to get less glare, and crouched down, to get more ground in

    @ToneControl
    see, I'd say your version was a little too brown, and the lack of field hight due to the crop on the left hand side makes it feel constrained.
    I have the original, which has a lot more ground in, but i cropped it down to alter the composition and bring it closer to 1/3rds.

    that's fine, everyone's different, I like to crop stuff to my own style, the rule of thirds being a rule of thumb
    I just changed the contrast and gamma, all just brightness levels, without touching colours, so the browns are in it already, that could be tweaked.

    The original is a nice photo though. Did you take several from different viewpoints? that's the other trick really, so you can pick the best later

    The only thing I don't like is that the crop is just below the top of the hedge. I'd have left it with clear sky all the way along the top - assuming that's possible and it isn't much taller than it looks like it would be.

    That leaf (?) on the ground just in front of the third fence post is distracting too, for some reason!

    I'm on my mobile and can't see this "leaf". Can someone please post an enlarged section so I can verify? Thanks.

    I like it,  couple of points for me anyway.  Id try lightening the dark areas,  so you pick up more of the detail in the hedge, and  either crop to make the fence disappear right in the bottom left corner (add some sky above the hedge),  or loose the fence to the left of the trees,   the trees are a little to central for me

    or do something like this

  • FWIW, I cropped it a little from the side and bottom (not sure if that worked really), sharpened it and put a bit of a gradient from the top to darken the sky.

    I like the gradient, but I loathe sharpening images... It lowers the quality if they are blown up, and gives it an almost oil painting like look it also brings the yellow in the grass out and makes it a bit more jarring to the eye... Which I like in some cases, but I'm not sure about this photo. Sharpening really requires a better quality camera to compensate for the loss of image quality. it pretty much just adds a black tinge to the edge of most objects which can really make things look square. working with 12 megapixels as I was here I didn't want to risk it, but I'll play around with it more post crimbo with the arrival of my new Sony NEX-5n ;)

    This is a better crop and perspective.  I like the way the fence and track take teh eye aroudn teh corner.  I like that you have brought out more detail in the hedge, The original was a dark shape, bt in doing so you have lost some of the depth of color in the sky. If you were going for a sunset shot you might want to bring some of thsi back in, but as am evening landscape I think its a very good pic taken bya mobile.  Well done.

    Fix it at the source. Bulldoze the trees and fence and build a casino on top of it all.

    Could be one of them, I'm not sure. Don't get around to all of them as often as I should any more. Looks like it could be a path to one of the groundsmens' cottages in one of the northern estates.
