It's a bit Hank Marvin but/and it's lovely.
(And has been completely cut from the single version on YouTube (3:50) but starts around 2:19 on the album version (about 5 minutes long)).
Right now though it's the solo in Changes by John Mayer - mediocre output for him, but sublime solo.
Well I never! Have a wisdom. So do you think it is:
(a) GV can control vibrato using telekinesis?
(b) Illuminati conspiracy?
There was a time when I decided to learn all the classic Steely Dan guitar solos. So far I've got Kid Charlemagne, Peg, Pretzel Logic, Black Friday (I'd be pushed to remember that one) and Reeling in the Years.
I must get back to my goal some time, starting with Bodhisattva and My Old School.
Pushed to my limits, I can just about manage Kid Charlemagne, but I'd never dare try it live. Bodhis is just wonderful in tone and technique but sadly, some parts slightly out of my reach. They are great to learn from and study playing chord tones.
I think Larry Carlton's playing on Royal Scam is wonderful, immense contribution to that album.
I'd learned the solo note for note and completely blanked. That's no excuse because I should have been able to improvise my way out of it. I learned a huge lesson that day. Never learn a solo note for note without knowing how to improvise if anything goes wrong. As I realised, when I had time to reflect on it, it's fairly easy to blag your way through it with a Bluesy C scale (i.e. combined major and minor pentatonic) over the changes.
