Well, the blue light was my baby, and the red light was my mind.”
Robert Johnson
Very few companies can replicate ageing, although there's masters out there like Clive Brown, known for his refinishing of vintage instruments.
Doesn't float my boat, as when I play an instrument for four years then I really begin to appreciate it (where I've scratched it with my thumb, fleece pocket zip and so on).
Did Gibson ever overspray guitars or is it just a flight of fantasy?
They probably did it on a few factory refins. Not a common practice like fender.
But that that misses the point. Who says the black overspray is replicating factory work. Relics try to capture player wear, surely that includes finish work and other mods.
I did a Black over red junior and the idea of a factory overspray never entered my head. I was imagining some punk band modding a cheap guitar.
I like the concept, not the execution.... the wear through looks a bit hokey in the vid.
