The "expression pedal" function is a bit of a scam- it doesn't run through every value between your set minimum and maximum, it flips from one to the other at a specified point in the pedal's sweep. So, since you can have the expression pedal alter every parameter except the delay mode, you could assign two different sounds to each footswitch as long as you keep the same delay mode.
This is how the "double preset mod" works- just a switch that puts a 10k resistor in series with the expression pedal contacts to fool the pedal in to thinking that the pedal is at minimum or maximum. You could house it in an external box if you didn't want to hack your pedal about.

You could achieve exactly the same function by connecting the 10K resistor directly across the switch and using both poles in parallel to bypass it.
